A video of a man beating a dog to death in Kathmandu went viral on social media. Police have arrested a person who beat a dog with a stick on 15th Baisakh in Tokha Municipality-7 Baniatar.
A video of a dog beating him on the street for trying to bite him has gone viral on social media. After the locals informed the police, Ankit Bhujel, a resident of Baniatar, was arrested by the police.
Similarly, the video of killing a dog by hanging it on a tree and beating it with various kinds of torture became very viral on social media. The police arrested three youths involved in the incident for animal cruelty. Such incidents are increasing day by day in Nepal. In Nepal In the last 5 years, 407 animal-related crimes have been registered.
According to police data, 11 cases have been registered at Kathmandu Valley Police Office in the financial year 2076/77. Similarly, 62 cases have been registered in Koshi, 3 in Madhesh, 18 in Gandaki, 11 in Lumbini, 1 in Karnali and 5 in Sudurpaschim.
In the financial year 2077/78, a total of 92 cases have been registered in Bagmati Province, 20 in Koshi, 2 in Madhesh, 31 in Gandaki, 15 in Lumbini, 5 in Karnali and 8 in Far West. Similarly, in 2078/79, 10 cases were registered in Bagmati, 10 in Koshi, zero in Madhesh, 21 in Gandaki, 7 in Lumbini, 5 in Karnali, and 1 in Sudurpaschim. In the financial year 2079/80, 17 cases were registered in Bagmati Province, 3 in Koshi, 3 in Madhesh, 27 in Gandaki, 25 in Lumbini, 6 in Karnali and 2 in Far West.
In the financial year 2080/2081, a total of 60 cases have been registered, 7 in Bagmati, 13 in Koshi, 2 in Madhesh, 21 in Gandaki, 12 in Lumbini, 1 in Karnali, and 4 in Sudupaschim . Similarly, till the March of the financial year 2081/82, a total of 52 cases have been registered, 9 in Bagmati Province, 8 in Koshi, 1 in Madhesh, 6 in Gandaki, 25 in Lumbini, 2 in Karnali, and 1 in Sudurpaschim . Foreign citizens have also been arrested for animal-related crimes.
Section 290 of the Criminal Code-2074 provides for offenses related to animals. In that section If any person is involved in animal cruelty, torture or unnecessary suffering, then It has been mentioned that the person can be punished with imprisonment up to 3 months or fine up to 5,000 rupees or both.
