Nepali Congress MP Vinod Chaudhary has said that MPs should be empowered. Speaking at the meeting of the House of Representatives held on Friday, he said that the matter of the MP's fund will continue and mentioned that the MP should be empowered and not a fund.
He reiterated the importance of empowering MPs to complete unfinished projects in their areas. He said that even after 10 years of the construction of the tank in the constituency, there are many such problems, giving the example that the people are still unable to drink water due to lack of pipes.
He opined that unless an elected member of parliament receives adequate support from the concerned ministry in terms of evaluation, monitoring and lack of budget of development plans in his area, development cannot proceed in a series.
He said, 'It is often a matter of MP's fund. An MP should be empowered to complete unfinished projects in his area. It has been 10 years since the tank was built, but due to lack of pipes, people are not able to drink water. But that is not the responsibility of MP. If the elected parliamentarians do not evaluate and monitor the development plans in their area - whether it is at the local, state or federal level - and if the relevant ministries do not strengthen their hands if there is a lack of budget, the development process cannot proceed in a serial manner.'
He drew the serious attention of the government by expressing his concern about the fact that Nepalis have to go abroad in the number of 3000 daily for employment.
