The government did not help to bring back the wealth earned through corruption and hidden abroad: Authority chief Rai

Premkumar Rai, chief commissioner of the Commission for Investigation of Abuse of Authority, has said that the government has not helped to bring back the assets that were hidden abroad through corruption.

Chief Commissioner Rai said this while speaking at the meeting of the Federalism Strengthening and National Concerns Committee under the National Assembly. According to him, the second party agreed to return to Nepal the wealth earned through corruption and hidden in Singapore, America and Europe, but the government did not show interest. He has also asked the parliamentarians to return the property earned through corruption and kept abroad. He complained that although a working group was formed in this regard, it did not work quickly.

Rai has also claimed that there is no political pressure or influence in the investigation of the authority. He said that after assuming the tenure, there was no pressure from any top leadership to prosecute the case or not. He claimed that the big gangs involved in corruption and irregularities have been investigated and mentioned that a transformation has been brought in the control of corruption in the field of information technology.

According to him, the investigation is affected because the employees involved in corruption do not want to inform about the involvement of the upper level.

He said, "The issue of not taking the big fish has been going on for 5/10 years. But who are the big fish and who are the small fish? From our point of view, it seems that a person who is a big gang in corruption and irregularity has been prosecuted. A transformation has been done in the field of information technology. The question people are asking is, why the people at the top level were not taken into action? The scapegoat was just an employee. In order to punish the higher-ups, the staff who gave the statement had to speak with evidence, but they did not want to take names. It is still not possible to bring back the money in Singapore, America and Europe. MPs should help in this. Although Singapore agreed to transfer the money, the government did not take the initiative.

Chief Commissioner Rai has mentioned that corruption is not limited within the country but has become international. In addition, he has also claimed that the number of non-resident citizens involved in corruption is significant.
