In the labor market, employers do not find the workers they want. Unemployed youth also find it difficult to find employers. To overcome this problem, the government has launched the 'Shram Sansar Portal' from Thursday, which brings together employers and job seekers at one place.
The Ministry of Labour, Employment and Social Security has launched this portal to easily provide information on employment, training and entrepreneurship opportunities available in the national labor market. Unions, state and local governments, job seekers, employers, training providers, self-employed and other stakeholders in the labor market will be included in this information system.
"Shram Sansar System is an exchange system of labor and employment services," Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli said while inaugurating the portal, "which will be helpful in bringing the benefits of federalism to the people through the analysis of demand and supply of labor and employment-related issues, engagement in employment, regulation of employer organizations, equality of employment services and expansion of accessibility."
Prime Minister Oli claimed that by removing the distance between workers, employers and employment services, making it 'faceless, processless and manipulationless', it will lead the nation to prosperity through the development of skills and abilities of citizens.
According to the Ministry of Labor, the number of unemployed youth listed in the local employment service centers is 757,725. Out of which there are 449 thousand 387 women. They have been shortlisted to join the Prime Minister's Employment Programme. It is not possible to provide employment to all of them through the Prime Minister's Employment Program. They are looking for employers.
According to Labor Minister Sharatsingh Bhandari, in order to make labor, employment and social security services accessible to all Nepalis, Shram Sansar portal will be operated from all municipalities. Employers who need workers must place an advertisement on the portal. Workers can also update their details directly. If you can't use the portal yourself, you can apply through the local employment service center," he said. "It's free. Even the self-employed will be able to advertise their skills.
According to the Employment Rights Act, 2075, employers must send the number of workers they need, qualifications, skills, and nature of work to the open employment service center in writing. However, it has not been effectively implemented. The Ministry of Labor has claimed that the Act will be effectively implemented through the Shram Sansar portal.
Labor Minister Bhandari said that even though there are opportunities in the internal labor market, there is no place to find employment and the youth are going directly to foreign employment. Due to lack of employment opportunities in Nepal, 700,000 youths go for foreign employment every year. Skilled manpower is going to work abroad when they do not find employers. The opportunity here has not been taken. Which has started to cause labor shortage in the market. Labor world is a tool to remove this gap, he said.
According to the Ministry of Labour, the Shram Sansar portal was tested in Biratnagar, Itahari and Duhabi municipalities from 2023. After success there, all 137 municipalities of Koshi province have joined this portal. Now it is going to be added to all 753 municipalities. For this, the Ministry of Labor has partnered with Swiss Contact.
