Foreign Department Head of Bharatiya Janata Party, Vijay Chathaiwale, who is visiting Nepal, has started high-level political meetings. He came down to Kathmandu on Wednesday morning and met with Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba, Home Minister Ramesh Ukhtar and Foreign Minister Arju Rana Deuba.
Congress President Deuba and Deuba's wife Foreign Minister Rana were jointly met by Chathaiwale. The meeting took place at Deuba residence in Budanilkanth. Before that, Chathaiwale had met with Home Minister Ramesh Akhtar. Similarly, he had dinner with Congress leader Shekhar Koirala on Wednesday night.
Chathaiwale, who is visiting Nepal for three days, is also scheduled to meet Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli. Apart from that, he has a program to meet with other major leaders of the power coalition, leaders of the opposition parties and leaders of the Madhesi Morcha. According to political sources, the purpose of the visit is to inform the political leadership of Nepal about the recent tension between India and Pakistan and to seek support in the fight against terrorism.
India has been holding Pakistan responsible for the terrorist attack that killed 26 people in Pahalgam in Jammu and Kashmir last week. India has taken various tough diplomatic steps against Pakistan. It has increased the tension between the two countries. In the meeting with the Home Minister, Chathaiwale emphasized on the issue of terrorist attacks. He told the writer about India's security interest and Nepal's support against terrorism.
Mentioning the context of the meeting with Chathaiwale, the Home Minister author wrote on the social network 'X' that there was a positive conversation to further strengthen the multi-faceted relationship between Nepal and India. He said that he is confident that the visit and meeting of the fourth person in Nepal will have a positive effect on the bilateral relations.
The day after the terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli called his Indian counterpart Narendra Modi and expressed solidarity against the terrorist attack. Oli condemned terrorism and expressed his opinion through social media that Nepal stands firmly with India.
At the political meeting, Chathaiwale also thanked India for the support Nepal has given to India against terrorism. With the expectation that it will continue, the 'lobbying' has done with the Nepali leaders. He is scheduled to return to Delhi on Friday.
