The President of Nepal Teachers' Federation, Lakshmi Kishor Subedi, has alleged that the opponents are spreading bad propaganda to defame the teachers' movement.
He said this while addressing the 27th day of the agitation in Kathmandu since March 20, demanding the issuance of the School Teachers Act. He said that the Federation strongly condemned the undemocratic actions taken by the police administration during the protest on Sunday.
Chairman Subedi accused the opposition of using 'vigilante' in the protest to create a stone-pelting situation and oppress the police. He said, 'Those in power can run away when they are tired, but the teachers who are on strike will not run away from the movement until their demands are met.'
According to him, the government has prepared a work list of 16 points that can be implemented immediately out of the 24-point demand of the teachers and that is the official document.
President Subedi added, 'Even on the 27th day, thousands of teachers are standing on the front of the movement. These teaching staff friends don't get tired, they don't melt, they don't run away. Yesterday the police showed the height of brutality. The peaceful protesting teachers were pelted with stones by the helmeted vigilantes and were lathicharged and water cannons fired by the police. We strongly condemn it.'
According to him, 62 teachers were injured in Sunday's incident. "The wounded have returned to the front of the movement with their eyes closed, their feet scraped, and their heads bandaged," he said.
President Subedi said that some groups are spreading rumors and misinformation to divide the movement. He asked the teachers to be aware of the movement.
He said, 'Sometimes rumors of five points, sometimes seven points and sometimes nine points have been spread. But we have submitted a 24-point agenda to the Government of Nepal. This is our official document.'
Subedi said at the end, 'Not only 62 people, but 62 thousand teachers are ready to be injured if necessary. Our movement will not stop until the Education Act is promulgated.'
