The municipality again banned the flying of commercial helicopters in the Khumbu area

The Khumbu Pasanglhamu rural municipality has again banned commercial helicopter flights in the Everest region. Earlier, in the stakeholders' meeting held at the district administration office, the municipality has reached the conclusion that the helicopter flight will be banned again.

With the lifting of the ban on flying helicopters by Everest National Park, helicopter companies started commercial flights. With the start of the climbing season, dozens of commercial helicopters are flying daily in the Khumbu area. The local government issued a statement on Monday and banned the flights.

Village Chairman Mingmachiri Sherpa has issued a statement saying that all types of commercial helicopter flights are completely prohibited above Lukla, except for rescue, cargo and mountain flights. The municipality has claimed that the forest, environment, biological diversity, local business and tourism activities have been negatively affected due to unorganized helicopter flights.  

Some helicopter businessmen and trekking businessmen are flying commercial helicopters and the municipality has warned that helicopter businessmen, tourism businessmen who sell packages and tourists who buy packages will have to face the responsibility of the situations that may arise if they fly helicopters from now on. Local associations, civil society, trekking professionals, guides, stakeholders related to tourism and all local residents have been requested to actively support the implementation of the decision.  Since
