Nepali Congress MP Yogesh Gauchan Thakali has been elected as the youth committee chairman of the Asian Forum of Parliamentarians on Population and Development (AFPPD). The election was held on the occasion of the 15th General Assembly on April 27-28, 2025 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

AFPPD is a regional network of parliamentarians from 30 national committees in Asia-Pacific and Central Asia, aiming to promote policy dialogue and cooperation for the benefit of vulnerable groups such as women, children, youth and the elderly.

Thakali's election has reaffirmed Nepal's growing leadership capacity in international forums related to population and development. In addition to his active leadership in the field of youth empowerment, Thakali has also consistently prioritized issues related to the climate crisis.

He has been raising the voice of the climate crisis in various platforms, asserting the need for sustainable and inclusive policies. Reacting after the election, Thakali has expressed his commitment to advance the youth voice, promote inclusive policies, strengthen regional cooperation and take concrete steps against climate change.
