Experts in the field of health education have said that no conditions are applicable to the subsistence allowance that resident teachers should receive and intellectual labor exploitation of resident doctors is acceptable.
Medical education experts Kedarbhakta Mathema, Prof. Dr. Suresh Raj Sharma, Prof. Dr. Arjun Karki, Prof. Dr. Madan Prasad Upadhyay, Prof. Dr. Jagdish Prasad Agarwal, Dr. Gunaraj Lohani has issued a joint statement and pointed out that the subsistence allowance set by the government should be provided unconditionally to resident doctors.
The resident doctors have been protesting for a month demanding that the students of private medical colleges also get the 48,000 per month subsistence allowance set by the government. Health services in hospitals have been affected since the Nepal Medical Association also supported their movement. The owners of private medical colleges have been saying that they cannot provide the subsistence allowance set by the government.
Medical education experts have suggested providing allowances to private medical college operators as well. It would be preferable for private medical colleges to rise above the lust for profit and accept the global trend of providing living allowance to resident doctors and move towards ending the current crisis. The intellectual labor exploitation of doctors cannot be accepted from any point of view," the joint statement said.
After the government said that private medical colleges cannot provide allowances, it has formed a task force to increase the seats and fees of the graduate level according to the demands of private medical colleges. Educationists have objected to it. "We are of the opinion that the seat and fees of the undergraduate level are a separate subject and it is not appropriate to link it with the subsistence allowance of resident doctors," said a statement issued by 7 educationists. They also appealed to the stakeholders to play a positive role in ending the doctors' movement.
