Congress MP Maya Rai has been arrested by the police. Crime Investigation Office chief SSP Ramesh Basnet informed that he was arrested from his house at around 8:30 pm on Saturday night.
"We have arrested him from his house at Kapan in Kathmandu and are handing it over to the police premises in Kathmandu right now," he said.
An arrest warrant was issued by the Kathmandu District Court against Rai, a central member of the Congress, for the crime of cooperative fraud and organized crime. She was working as joint secretary in the board of directors of the cooperative. It is alleged that people including Rai have embezzled billions of rupees from 690 savers.
