Rashtriya Prajatantra Party Chairman Rajendra Lingden has made it clear that speaking in favor of monarchy is not against democracy. Speaking at the meeting of the House of Representatives on Friday, he opined that monarchy and democracy are not mutually exclusive.
He mentioned that monarchy and democracy have progressed side by side in many developed countries of the world . He also asked them not to create false comments that would be considered anti-democracy while speaking in favor of the monarchy.
He said, 'A wrong comment has been made that talking about the monarchy means opposing democracy. I want the representatives of the people in this honorable parliament not to give that wrong definition. Talking about monarchy is not against democracy and democracy. Monarchy and democracy are not mutually exclusive. There are many prosperous countries in the world, happy and prosperous countries, where democracy and monarchy coexist. Therefore, it should not be called opposition to democracy because someone here or RPP spoke in favor of the monarchy or the king. I would like to request all political parties and honorable members not to create this false comment.'
President Lingden insisted that simply advocating democracy does not make someone a democrat. How appropriate is it for the big parties that treat the political parties that advocate the monarchy as democrats? asked that.
He said, 'Behavior shows who is in favor of democracy and who is against it. One does not become a democrat just by beating the sting of democracy. To show an autocratic character in practice, to act autocratically on other parties or the opposition because the king did this yesterday, and to call himself a great democrat?'
