Prime Minister's request to build earthquake-proof structures

Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has emphasized on the need to build structures that will not collapse due to earthquakes. Addressing the 10th Gorkha Earthquake Commemorative Meeting held in Kathmandu on Friday, he mentioned that the damage caused by the 2072 earthquake could not be rebuilt with the economic condition, budget and capacity of Nepal.

He said that it is necessary to build structures that will not be damaged by disasters, and to build houses that will not collapse in earthquakes.

He stressed that the necessary preparations should be made so that the structure is not damaged by the disaster, but rather that it should not be damaged. He said that special attention should be paid to pre-preparedness related to natural calamities. He said that instead of rebuilding only after the earthquake, we should choose a way to live safely.

Oli said, 'No matter how much flexibility our nation showed, it was not possible to rebuild something like the earthquake of 2072 with the economic situation, budget and capacity. So we need to make such structures in advance, which do not allow damage. It is necessary to build houses that do not collapse due to earthquakes. We will not wait until it collapses.'

According to him, 'Most of the houses on our hill are built by mixing stones. Walls are made by mixing mud with those stones. Even a slight shake will cause the structure to collapse. There are still many such houses left. It is important to pay attention to making those houses safe by everyone.'

Oli said that it is important to adopt safe methods at any time. He mentioned that the support shown by security personnel and ordinary citizens during the 2072 earthquake was extraordinary.
