Communications and Information Technology Minister Prithvi Subba Gurung has warned that social media operator Meta will be banned in Nepal if it is not registered within seven days.

At the department level interaction program on the right to information organized by the National Information Commission in Kathmandu on Friday, he said that although notices have been issued several times to register Meta in Nepal, the company has refused. Mentioning that the deadline for the third notification expired a few days ago, he warned that if registration is not done within the next seven days, bans will be imposed.

He said that every hour money is withdrawn from social networks such as Facebook, Messenger, WhatsApp, and Instagram operated in Nepal from Meta. "Thousands of rupees are going to Meta's office every now and then from our society. Don't register here? Don't have to pay taxes?' he questioned.

According to him, the government has issued notices three times. 'No longer than seven days are given,' Minister Gurung said, 'Meanwhile, we searched for them. They are bigger than the country. What is their pride, how much is Nepal's GDP? That's it. It is said that Nepal is much smaller than our organization. The country's independence is not linked to money.'

According to Minister Gurung, only Tiktok, Viber and V-Talk have been registered in Nepal so far.
