The agitating doctors have stopped non-emergency services in government hospitals across the country on Friday, demanding that the resident doctors be provided with a monthly subsistence allowance of 8th level and 16 months.

The doctors said that government hospitals, health science institutes, medical colleges, and OPD services have been closed on the call of the Nepal Doctors Association. The president of the association, Anilvikram Karki, issued a statement on Thursday evening and appealed to stop the non-emergency services.

Most of the government hospitals, medical colleges and some private hospitals across the country have been disrupted. Various hospitals said that patients who came to the OPD were forced to return without receiving treatment. OPD services could not be operated in big hospitals including Veer in Kathmandu Valley. The doctors of Kathmandu Valley stopped their services and participated in the sit-in at Maitighar.

The resident doctor has been protesting for a month demanding subsistence allowance. After the medical association also showed solidarity in their movement, the service in health institutions across the country has been affected. Although the Medical Education Commission has decided to provide 48,000 per month subsistence allowance from February, private medical colleges have been rejecting the decision. According to the private medical association, there will be losses when the allowance is provided.
