Foreign Minister Dr. Arju Rana Deuba has claimed that Nepal's international image has been positive due to her presidency at the UNCAP conference held in Thailand.
Minister Rana expressed this opinion after attending the 81st Conference of the United Nations Regional Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNSCAP) held in Bangkok, Thailand from May 8 to 12.
According to him, there was a serious discussion about regional and international cooperation for the economic and social development of the Asia-Pacific region in the conference. She informed that in the meeting involving landlocked and small island nations, collaborative measures to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) were also discussed.
She said, 'I also chaired the Group of Small Island Developing States, Landlocked and Least Developed Countries (LDC). This group includes 92 countries. When I presided over that session, I felt that Nepal's international image had become somewhat positive. We are also the chairman of the LDC group.' On the sidelines of the
event, she met UNCAP Executive Secretary Armidas Alisjava. In that meeting, she praised the role ESCAP is playing for economic and social development and expressed her belief that the role will be more effective in the future.
According to him, there was a serious discussion about business strategy, concession management, technical support, investment flow and funding mechanism after upgrading from LDC. She said that the topic of Everest dialogue was also raised in the conference.
Minister Rana commented that such rumors come for entertainment when asked by the media about the change of government. 'I myself was surprised to read the news that the government is changing,' she said.
