When Congress Chairman Sher Bahadur Deuba is unable to choose a successor in the leadership of the party, former office-bearers who support him have increased their activity. They have started increasing pressure on Deuba for the selection of the leader who will be promoted from the founding party to the chairman in the upcoming convention.

On the occasion of Democracy Day, a tea party for former Congress officials was held at Maharajganj residence of former Chief Minister Shashank Koirala on Thursday. Ex-officers Prakashman Singh, Krishna Prasad Sitaula, Vimalendra Nidhi, Vijay Kumar Gachchdar, Gopalman Shrestha and some other leaders participated in the tea ceremony. Earlier they also held a tea party at Singh and Nidhi's residence. A leader said that the ex-officers are trying to send a message that they are no longer relevant in politics.

There is a provision in the constitution of the Congress that a party president cannot serve more than two terms. That is why Deuba will not be able to take the leadership again from the upcoming 15th Congress. But he has not decided who will be promoted from his side. From the establishment side, the current vice-chairman Purna Bahadur Khadka and 6 ex-officers are aspirants. But leader Shrestha claimed that he would make one of them the chairman's candidate after making an agreement among the 6 people.

Some time ago, 6 ex-officers met Deuba and asked him to select a candidate from the establishment side. According to them, there will be one candidate for the party chairman in the agreement, and the others can go to the office bearers and central members. This alliance of 6 people will continue until the 15th Congress, and others will be added to it. Everyone should be able to be a candidate, but one person should be nominated for the leadership from among us,' former vice chairman Shrestha said, 'such a person will be promoted to the chairmanship, under whom other leaders will be comfortable.' From the other side of the establishment, the former office-bearers started an alliance after a clash between Shekhar Koirala and General Minister Gagan Thapa. Sitaula, Nidhi and Singh are actively taking the lead in this. A former official said that Deuba has made up his mind not to choose his successor until he becomes the prime minister. "Thinking that the selection of a successor may lead to a siege and that the path to becoming the Prime Minister may be blocked, Deuba has made a decision about the party convention and his successor only after he becomes the Prime Minister," he said. If the current alliance is not over, Deuba will become the Prime Minister in 083 June according to the agreement with UML.

Another ex-officer complained that Chairman Deuba was not worried about anything other than being the Prime Minister. On the other hand, we are sitting on the sidelines while the country is running errands. There is talk that we should put pressure on Deuba to move one of us forward," he said. "Our relevance in the Congress has not ended. We cannot sit and watch the deal. We are constantly discussing about the leadership of the 15th Congress.

Prakashman Singh and Krishna Prasad Sitaula, the leaders who were in favor of the then Chairman Sushil Koirala in the 12th Congress, helped Deuba to become the Chairman in the 14th Congress. Sitaula had helped Deuba since the 13th Congress. At that time, Sitaula, who himself was in the race for the chairmanship, supported Deuba in the second phase after no one got 50 percent of the votes in the first phase. In the 13th Congress, Ramchandra Paudel (current president) competed with Deuba. In the 14th Congress, both Singh and Nidhi were candidates for the chairmanship. Both Singh and Nidhi helped Deuba in the second round of elections between Deuba and leader Shekhar Koirala.
