We will rebuild private residences that have been completely damaged by floods within one year: Home Minister Writer

Home Minister Ramesh Akhtar has said that the private residences that were completely damaged by the floods will be rebuilt within a year. Assessing the damage caused by the flood in Narayantar located in Roshi Rural Municipality-2 of Budhabar Kavre, he said that the private houses that were completely damaged by the flood will be rebuilt within one year.

A detailed damage assessment has been started from Narayantar located in Roshi-2 among the 71 local levels that were damaged by the devastating floods and landslides that occurred in the second week of last October. Home Minister Akbar inspected the damage from Roshi's Narayanatar on Wednesday. About seven months after the disaster, the government has started a detailed damage assessment together with the local level.  

In the program organized on the occasion, the Home Minister said that the reconstruction was delayed due to complications in policies, laws and procedures. He said, "Now the government has committed to speed up the reconstruction." He said that

victims will be provided Rs 50,000 in two installments for temporary housing and Rs 4 lakh for construction of permanent housing. The Home Minister said that after the completion of the detailed damage assessment, both temporary and permanent housing construction work will be started. Similarly, he said that the reconstruction work of BP highway has progressed so that it can be operated even in dry season. 

Chief Executive Officer of National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority, Engineer Dinesh Bhatt clarified that permanent housing construction work will be started after the completion of detailed damage assessment.  During the

program, the member of the House of Representatives, Suryaman Dong, said that the reconstruction work should be started as soon as possible because the victims of floods and landslides may be more vulnerable during the rainy season.  In addition, he said that there is a need to build an embankment to protect the settlements.

Congress central member Shiv Prasad Humagai said that everyone should unite for the construction of private housing and public infrastructure damaged by the flood. Bagmati Provincial Assembly member Tirtha Lama was of the opinion that all political parties and concerned agencies should work together to build infrastructure.  In the

program, Village Chairman Dinesh Lama mentioned that the challenge is how to start reconstruction of public infrastructure including private housing. Landslides and floods have turned hundreds of hectares of agricultural land into barrens, he said, adding that there is a possibility of a food crisis and that all three levels of government should work in coordination. According to the municipality, 536 houses in Roshi rural municipality were completely damaged due to the floods that occurred last October.

Similarly, 13 people were killed in a flash flood in Roshi. 79 people from 13 local levels of Kavre were killed in the landslides that occurred on the second of October.
