Writer and former ambassador Kamal Koirala has passed away. Koirala, who was undergoing treatment at KMC Hospital in Sinamangal, died on Sunday evening. He was admitted to the hospital last Tuesday after falling and being paralyzed at home. During treatment, Koirala died at the age of 87.

According to journalist Kishore Shrestha, a memorial meeting has been held at the office of the United Samajwadi Party in Aloknagar at 11 am on Monday.

Former Prime Minister Matrika Prasad Koirala's son Kamal was active in left-wing politics since his teenage years. Active in writing and journalism, Koirala also became the ambassador to South Korea.

In the year 2078, Koirala was actively involved in the movement by Nepal Bar Association, an umbrella organization of lawyers, against the then Chief Justice Cholendra Shamsher Jabara for bringing judicial deviation in the Supreme Court, haggling over the price of justice, obstructing justice and tampering with the administration of justice.

95-year-old Koirala Senior Advocate Krishna Prasad Bhandari, who was also a member of the Lalitpur Bar, participated in the first legal professionals' conference in 2034 and joined the movement with black armband tied to the bar association. I have come to support judges and lawyers. They have started a good fight. It is my duty to support it. Be it as a legal professional, as a journalist or as a citizen. I fulfilled that duty," he told Kantipur.
