The Federation of Nepalese Journalists protesting against the attack on the media and journalists during the violent demonstration in Tinkune has submitted a letter to the government on Saturday.
General Secretary of the Federation, Ram Prasad Dahal, informed that the Central Committee of the Federation submitted letters to the Federal Government's Home Minister Ramesh Akhtar, the State Committees Chief Minister and the Minister of Internal Affairs and the branches through the Chief District Officers of the respective districts on Monday. The
federation has warned the government that if there is no guarantee of justice for the deceased journalist and his family, compensation for the media house damaged by arson and stone pelting, treatment of the injured journalist, compensation for the damaged and lost media equipment and security of the media house and media workers, they will protest against the government after a week.
In the letter of attention, it has been demanded to investigate the journalist Suresh Rajak, who died in the fire, to take immediate action against the culprits and to compensate his family, to compensate the damaged Annapurna Post, Kantipur Television, Himalayan Television and to provide compensation and free treatment to the injured journalist.
In the same way, the Federation has demanded that legal action be taken against those involved in press freedom violations from the past and proper arrangements should be made for the safety of media houses and media personnel. General Secretary Dahal said that if these demands are not properly addressed, there will be agitation against the federation government.
The delegation headed by the Acting President of the Federation, Deepak Acharya, submitted a letter of attention to the Home Minister. Acharya has requested to address the demands of the federation, while Home Minister Akbar informed that the government is serious about the demand and a decision will be taken after necessary consultations. Likewise, the team of the federation has discussed the offering with the family and relatives of the slain journalist Rajak.
