House of Representatives meeting adjourned till 11 am on Sunday

The meeting of the House of Representatives has been adjourned until 11 am on Sunday. The meeting called for 11 am on Friday was adjourned until 1:15 pm after there was no agreement between the parties.

Parliament has been suspended for several days as opposition parties continue to protest. According to the Secretariat of the Speaker, the meeting has been called for 11 am on Sunday. Today, Speaker Devraj Ghimir had a discussion with the chief whips of major political parties at Parliament House. Speaker Ghimire has talked to the major parties to remove the obstruction of the Parliament.  Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Ajay Kumar Chaurasia also participated in the

meeting. The future of the five ordinances under the parliamentary process is in doubt as the opposition party continues to block the House in protest against the removal of Kulman Ghisingh as the Executive Director of the Electricity Authority. According to the deadline set by the constitution, those ordinances will automatically become inactive if they are not passed by the parliament by next Tuesday.

The opposition parties have taken a stand to continue the obstruction until Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli gives an answer in the House regarding the dismissal of the Executive Director of Nepal Electricity Authority, Kulman Ghising. According to the Secretariat of the Speaker, there has been no notification that Prime Minister Oli will respond. However, UML chief whip Mahesh Bertaula said on Thursday that the minister, not the prime minister, can answer in the House on behalf of the government.
