Atrocities against Dalits in Siraha: A debate behind closed doors today

In Siraha's Aurhi Rural Municipality 5, the government agencies have shown unusual activity to end the atrocities on Dalits by calling them untouchables in the name of Mahayagya. Activism from the police, public prosecutors to the courts to release village president Shivji Yadav and former ward president Dilip Yadav, who are in custody for crimes related to caste discrimination and untouchability, has been seen as unnatural.

It has only been 7 days since the village president and former ward president were arrested in this incident. They were arrested on the evening of the 9th. However, according to the law, the deadline for investigation of crimes related to caste discrimination and untouchability is 25 days, but the District Police Office, Siraha, submitted the report to the District Attorney's Office, Siraha within 6 days on Thursday.

After receiving the police investigation report, the public prosecutor studies it and sends it to the police again if there are any errors, and if not, the charge sheet is filed in the court. However, in other cases, the public prosecutor, who spent at least two to three days studying the report, filed the charge sheet in the court on Friday, the morning after the police submitted the report.

Did you see your unnatural activism in this incident? In response to the question, District Attorney Rajendra Basnet claimed that everything was done in a procedural manner. "We have done everything in a procedural manner," Basnet said while talking to Kantipur, "We have studied the police report, and after everything was fine, we did not hold back." The leaders of Siraha have objected to the government agency showing unnatural activity in this case.

Ex-MP Suresh Chandra Das, who is also a resident of Aurhi, has alleged that the acquittal of the convicts is being done with the collusion of all agencies. "Nimukha, who was arrested in ordinary indecent and theft cases, is kept in jail for 20-25 days," he said, "However, the activity shown by the government agencies in a case of such a serious nature is questionable." He said that after the police submitted the report to the public prosecutor, they found out that the arrest would be until Sunday and even though they had made legal preparations in the same manner, they were surprised to hear that the arrest would be made today.

'The report was received by the public prosecutor only yesterday, we thought that the public prosecutor would study it for two/three days, we got the same information when we inquired,' he said, 'We had prepared to hire a private lawyer for this, but we were confused when we heard that it would be closed today, we were led astray.' Deepak's house was demolished by village head Shivji Yadav, former ward president Dilip Yadav and Bajrangi Baba using the dozers of the village.
