Eleven central members of the Nepal Vidyarthi Sangh (Nevisangh) have filed a complaint with the party, demanding action against Congress Kaski President Kishore Dutt Baral. The central member representing Kaski sent a letter to the Disciplinary Committee on Thursday, saying that President Baral had done damage to the organization in the Swaviyu elections.
They have sent a letter to the committee coordinator Anand Prasad Dhungana alleging that he interfered in the selection of candidates of Swaviyu, played a role in defeating the Navy Union, and embezzled donations. They demand to take disciplinary action against Chairman Baral within 7 days.
In a press conference held in Pokhara on Thursday, central member Anjan Thapa said that the instructions given by the president to go to the SWIU elections without a secretary were non-political. He insisted that they have raised the issue that there should not be activities that weaken the union rather than the issue of a particular person.
Central members Rajendra Baral, Nasib Gurung, Anjan Thapa, Sanskar Koirala, Vikram Aditya Singh Giri, Mahadev Giri, Rajiv Banstola, Kaviraj Pahari, Yamakrishna Poudel, Suji Magar and Ganga Giri have sent a joint letter to the disciplinary committee.
The issue of action against the party district president is connected with the self-elections of the Institute of Engineering Studies (Western Campus). In this campus, there was a dispute within the union regarding who should be the secretary candidate in the Swaviyu election on March 5.
Kushal Sapkota and Prashant Joshi were aspirants from the Navy Association for the post of Secretary of the Union. When Joshi filled the nomination form, the Sapkota party tore it up. Joshi submitted the two-part nomination paper to the election committee. The election committee decided to cancel it. The campus unit of the Navysangh, the district president of the party, was in favor of holding elections without the secretary and the other party was in favor of not having the secretary. Finally in this campus Akhil (socialist) close independent candidate Prakash Ojha became president of Swaviyu, Akhil (revolutionary) won the secretary. With the conclusion that the defeat was due to the district president of the party, the central member of the New Union has complained to the party center.
Congress Kaski President Kishore Dutt Baral said that he had no place to speak after the Navy Sangh campus unit asked him to go to the election without a secretary. Chairman Baral claimed that the party did not interfere in the matter of candidates and elections. "SWAVIU's election guidelines recognize campus student organizations, political parties do not. After the students of the campus signed in the all-party meeting that they are ready to go without the secretary, the party has no place to speak," he told Kantipur.
President Baral said that there is no truth in the allegation of misappropriation of money collected for the Swaviyu elections. Students say they need money for elections, the party should do it. Expenses will not fall from the sky. We will ask friends and well-wishers," Chairman Baral added, "The money has already been raised. It happens in an official meeting that so-and-so gave so much.'
He said that the district committee meeting will be held on May 5 and the income-expenditure will be presented in that meeting. Chairman Baral claimed that he was falsely accused of financial embezzlement because of the development of a wrong culture that one becomes a leader by speaking loudly and using insults.
