Chandraprakash Shrestha (CP), coordinator of Hotel Association Nepal, Lumbini Province, has alleged that the Gautam Buddha International Airport in Rupandehi has not been operational due to the government's lack of interest.

Shrestha, who is also a hotelier, said that the government could not operate the airport due to limited interest groups in the interactive program organized by Kantipur Media Group at Bhairahawa in Lumbini on Wednesday.

The government did not want to run this airport. According to some people in Kathmandu, this airport is not functioning.'' While giving his opinion on the third session 'Lumbini's Call: International Flight', he said, 'In July 2081, Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli called a meeting of his secretariat . And it was decided by the Council of Ministers that we should build infrastructure at the airport during the movement.'

He also recalled that the businessmen protested for about two weeks with the demand to operate the airport and build the necessary infrastructure within the airport. At that time, the Minister of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation was Sudan Kirati. He said that despite being called for talks, nothing was achieved.

'But one day our current Prime Minister started coming to some programs from the airport. The delegation of our hotel association took a memorandum and put this matter before the Prime Minister . He also requested from him," he added, "but even after nine months, the decision made by the Council of Ministers was not implemented. If the infrastructure was built at the airport, the airport would have gained speed . But it didn't come. Why didn't you come ?'

Not only that, the airport is the future of Lumbini's businessmen and citizens, businessmen have invested 80 billion and now the airport is not operational, he said, the investment is at risk .

'This airport is of this area . It is the future of businessmen and citizens here. The businessmen here have taken loans from the bank," he said, "Some businessmen are in the situation of being auctioned and have gone to the blacklist. Who will watch these ? Where is the government now?'

Jazeera Airlines flights have been suspended for eight months now. In which the government has invested billions of rupees. Now we are seeing that both are sinking. Businessmen have drowned . Look at the status of businessmen today,' he asks the government, 'where has it reached? We repeatedly requested from the federal government to the local government why this airport was built. Why is it not operational?'
