Ashok Koirala, leader of CPN United Socialist Party, passed away. Koirala, a resident of Kohalpur in Banke, who is also a member of the Samajwadi Party's politburo, was also in charge of the district.

Three weeks ago, Koirala was unconscious after he suffered a stroke while staying in Kapilvastu in connection with party work.

After treatment in Bhairahawa, he was taken to Maharajganj Teaching Hospital in Kathmandu. During his treatment there  Loknath Sharma, co-coordinator of the propaganda department of CPN Unified Samajwadi Banke, has informed about the passing away.

Before joining Samajwadi Party, Koirala, who was active in the communist movement since his student days, led the CPN-UML at various levels and also held the responsibility of district president.

Koirala has a son and a daughter. His family said that he will be buried on Tuesday. is
