The three main parties, Congress, UML and Maoist Center, agreed on the transitional justice bill last July. Then, after the bill was passed in Parliament, President Ramchandra Paudel certified it last August. Although there was an agreement to soon appoint officials to the Commission of Inquiry into Disappeared Persons and the Commission for Truth and Reconciliation, the meeting of the top leaders could not be held due to accusations between the ruling and opposition parties.

Six months after the President certified the bill, the meeting of the top leaders agreed to form a recommendation committee for the appointment of officials of the commission. Some time ago, the process of transitional justice could not proceed. After the discussion between the three main parties, an agreement has been reached to appoint the officials of the commission soon to finalize the transitional justice. For that, the top leaders of the three parties have agreed to form a recommendation committee to appoint officials of the commission.  It was agreed to form a recommendation committee regarding the appointment of officials in the Truth and Reconciliation and Disappearance Investigation Commission. After the committee is formed by the cabinet meeting, the process of appointing officials will proceed.

When are the officials of the commission appointed?

It is said that the officers of the commission will be appointed within two months after the law on transitional justice is promulgated. Some time has passed. Officials will be appointed soon.
