Upsurge of Dalits in the name of Mahayagya: Parliamentary inquiry committee demand

During the first half of the 59th International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination, the members of the Federal Parliament objected that the administrative mechanism under the Ministry of Home Affairs was a silent spectator when the houses of another 5 Dalits were demolished. They have also demanded the formation of a parliamentary committee to investigate the incident.

The MP of UML, who is leading the government, has also asked the question in the Parliament to the Home Minister, Ramesh Akhtar, 'Are you anti-Dalit?' The constitution resolved to ensure economic equality, prosperity and equal justice by ending class, ethnic, regional, linguistic, religious, gender discrimination and all kinds of ethnic untouchability. However, the parliamentarian objected that caste-based discrimination persists in the society and that the state has not brought those who discriminate in the scope of action.

In the House of Representatives on Thursday, in an emergency and at zero time, the ruling and opposition MPs unanimously objected to the incident. Member of Parliament Jeevan Pariyar, who is also the Joint General Minister of the ruling Congress, demanded, "I want to strongly condemn the kind of upheaval that people including rural municipality president Shivji Yadav and Janmat Party president Dilip Yadav have done to the people of the Dom caste living there in the name of performing great sacrifices." I want to strongly demand the government to give justice to the victim's family.'

The UML MP who is leading the government said that despite the declaration of an untouchable nation, such incidents on the basis of caste have caused grief. The demolition of a poor Dalit's house under the leadership of the village president by using dozers of the village as untouchables has destroyed the federal democratic republic and the constitution. We can't give social justice by keeping such fishing justice alive," she questioned the home administration, "Why is the police administration of Sira watching the inhumane behavior as a silent spectator? I want to ask the Home Minister - are you anti-Dalit?'

She demanded that the Home Minister stand on the rostrum of the Parliament and answer about the incident of Dalit family rioting. She said, "Parliament should not be a silent spectator, a powerful parliamentary inquiry committee should be formed to investigate this incident, and the Speaker's ruling should be made for this." Maoist MP Shakti Bahadur Basnet demanded action against those involved in the caste discrimination incident in Siraha's Aurhi-5 and compensation to be provided to the victim's family. MP Ranendra Barali said that incidents on the basis of caste are increasing daily in the country. "Due to the atrocities on Dalits, the peak of Mount Everest has been cut. Dalits are starting to think that they will have to go to the International Court when they are not getting justice from the state. "The incident of caste discrimination has made us very ashamed when the International Day for the Liberation of Racial Discrimination is being celebrated," he said.

RSVP Chief Whip Santosh Pariyar demanded the Home Minister to investigate the incident. He said, "What happened under the guise of religion is an extreme case of caste discrimination. This incident is affecting our contemporary consciousness, Nepal's rule of law, our commitment to human rights and the constitution itself." Why is this happening only during the government? Why is the government of Madhesh state not speaking for that? Is it for the distribution of power or for the justice of the people? It is not only the Sirha Aurhi incident, hundreds of incidents have happened elsewhere,' he said, 'they do not come to the media and even the police are involved in the villages, the government is anti-Dalit and anti-women, so there is discrimination in villages.' "I demand immediate action against the people involved in the incident," she said. She urged the government and parties to implement the right to live with dignity, the right to freedom, the right to equality and the right against untouchability and discrimination as guaranteed by the constitution.

Janmat Member of Parliament Abdul Khan said that it is unacceptable for the people's representative to dig up and throw away the soil of the house of the Dalit family as it is impure. He said, 'If such misdeeds are being done by the people's representatives, how many people are oppressing the Dalit community? Strict action should be taken against the culprits as soon as possible.

MP Prabhu Hazara said, sometimes caste discrimination is being done in the name of inter-caste marriage, sometimes in the name of untouchability, sometimes in the name of removal of houses. The municipal chairman used a dozer to demolish the Janata Awas house built by the government, that chairman should be suspended and punished as soon as possible. MP Ashok Choudhary asked, 'Have we ended untouchability in the true sense of Nepal?' Mentioning that the poor Dalit community is still being treated like a second-class citizen, he said that attention should also be paid to what the silence of the administration and the local level indicates in such cases.

'Who decided to displace Deepak's family? Why not bring the perpetrators of caste discrimination and inhuman behavior under the scope of legal action?', he said, 'This incident has shamed Nepal's inclusive democracy. Therefore, I demand that an investigation committee be formed immediately and strict action should be taken against the culprits to ensure rehabilitation and proper compensation to the victim's family. MP Harkamaya Biswakarma, while celebrating the International Caste Eradication Day, requested the government to bring legal action against those involved in the incident in Aurhi Rural Municipality.
