National Independent Party MP Sobita Gautam has said that the government has protected the people who commit co-operative fraud. In the meeting of the House of Representatives on Monday, Member of Parliament Gautam participated in the discussion on the bill made to amend some Nepal Acts related to cooperatives, and she suggested that the regulation of cooperatives should be tightened.
According to MP Gautam, the main reason for co-operatives to be in trouble is the weakness in regulations and the protection of political parties to those who abuse co-operatives. He argued that the parliamentary committee was formed to investigate the
co-operative fraud and it only brought revenge. "A parliamentary inquiry committee was formed, but the real co-operative fraudsters were under the clear protection of the government and the issue of co-operatives became a weapon for the government to take revenge on those who raised their voices against corruption and constantly warned about corruption," she said .
Nepal Cooperative Act, 2074 MP Gautam said that there was a problem in the cooperative after it was released. "The statistics show that more and more problems have appeared after that law came into existence". "Leaders affiliated with political parties started the game of making private funds for cooperatives and using people's money from there," she said. The cooperative director is a person who is affiliated to a political party or the political party that provides protection from there has come to provide protection to the people affiliated to the cooperative and run money from there.'
Gautam said that about 7 thousand cooperatives in the country are in crisis. She claimed that the Cooperative Bill has also been brought to bend the people and the international world.
Parliamentarian Gautam said that the concept of cooperative authority is at the center of the bill currently under consideration in the parliament, but it cannot solve the problem because it is not autonomous. "I do not believe that the problem of cooperatives will be solved as soon as the authority is formed." Until the cooperative is formed as an autonomous body to solve the problem, the victims will not get justice from the cooperative,' she said.
She said that the authority under the control of the ministry will not solve all the problems seen in the cooperatives. She suggested that a national level body should be formed to regulate all cooperatives and multi-purpose and savings and loan cooperatives should be regulated by the National Bank.
