The Nepal Professors Association, a common organization of professors across the country, has demanded the appointment of university officials including the Vice Chancellor of Kathmandu University (KU) on the basis of merit, seniority and work ability.

President of the Association Prof. Ramesh Kumar Joshi and General Secretary Narendra Prasad Sivakoti issued a statement on Sunday and demanded the appointment of officials in the universities as soon as possible. It has been brought to the attention of the Association that the posts of Vice Chancellor of Kathmandu University, Member Secretary of University Grants Commission, Chairman of Nepal Sanskrit University Service Commission, Chairman of Rajarishi Janak University Service Commission, Chairman of Vacancy Committee of Open University have been vacant for a long time.

The Nepal Professors' Association also said that the issue of the announcement regarding the appointment of the Vice-Chancellor has attracted the attention of the President of the KU Professors' Association.

According to the association, panic and pressure was created by the threatening message to the officials regarding the statement published on 18th of February.

The KU Professors' Association issued a statement saying that he understands the problems of professors, staff, students and the university, has high academic ability, can raise financial resources to run the university, can compete at the international level, and should be appointed as a vice chancellor in KU. The Nepal professor has also warned that the association will be forced to take strict measures if the act of creating pressure and fear is repeated again.
