After being blacklisted by the Press Council, the English daily 'The Himalayan Times' objected. The newspaper has requested to correct the erroneous decision as the council has blacklisted it without hearing its reply and explanation.

After a complaint was registered on the 14th of June regarding the news about Himalayan Adventures and Nirmal Purja, the council asked for a reply from the magazine. The complainant made another application to the council for

magazine publishing a rebuttal with his statement. Similarly, on August 27, the newspaper published the complainant's rebuttal when asked for an explanation.  But if the newspaper also wrote other details related to the news, the council has made it a matter of action.

"Even though the complainant's response appears to be partially accepted, it appears to be a rebuttal to the complainant's rebuttal, quoting Gilmore's statement," the council's letter said. The Council has made the practice and right of the magazine to mention the statements of other people related to the news a subject of action. The council blacklisted The Himalayan Times daily and Himalayan Times.com as the answer was not satisfactory.  The

council said that it has formed a working group to investigate the news and submit a report on October 18. According to the report submitted by the same working group, the council has blacklisted The Himalayan Times. The Himalayan Times has written a letter to the Press Council on February 25, demanding that the decision be revoked, saying that the council has taken a unilateral decision. The newspaper claimed that the council did not pay attention to the request for rebuttal.

The Himalayan Times has drawn the attention of the Nepal Media Society by saying that the Press Council unilaterally decided to blacklist the media without any notice or discussion. The newspaper also claims that the council's move is against press freedom and impartiality.

"We have submitted a formal letter with an explanation to the Press Council, we demand that the decision to blacklist The Himalayan Times should be withdrawn immediately," the letter written to the society states, "We expect the Press Council Nepal to adopt a fair and legal process." The Himalayan Times has requested the Media Society to take necessary steps in favor of press freedom and fairness.
