Referring to the demonstrations and rallies held recently demanding the return of the monarchy, Home Minister Ramesh Akhtar has said that the rumblings being made by some friends in the name of returning the monarchy will not work.
At a press conference organized by the Nepal Press Union in Doti on Saturday, the Home Minister said that since there is already a conspiracy against democracy in Nepal, we should be aware of it.
The opinion of the Home Minister was that monarchy is not an alternative to republic. "There are few examples in the world of a king who was overthrown by the revolution living in the same country," said the home minister writer, "Due to advanced democracy in the country, the former king Gyanendra is enjoying his rights as a citizen in Nepal." He also challenged the former king to open the party and come to an open discussion. He reminded the former king that he has the right to open a party and fight in the elections as a citizen.
