In the 10th session of UML Morang, the party president KP Sharma Oli's party candidate was defeated, while the panel of other establishment groups won. According to the public vote results on Friday evening, Ajamber Rai won the presidency by getting 446 votes. His rival Rajkumar Ojha of the establishment party got 407 votes.

Vinod Dhakal led other groups in the district convention. His party's Sagar Thapa won the vice-president post with 422 votes. Shantikumari Limbu of Thapa's rival establishment got 391 votes.

Somraj Thapa, who won as secretary, got 462 votes, while Ravin Thapa of the organization got 368 votes. While Santosh Vantwa got 490 votes and Usha Jha got 418 votes for Deputy Secretary, Irjalal Rajvanshi from the establishment party got 311 votes and Shilpa Karki got 450 votes. A total of 888 votes were cast in the session. 

Former President Bidyadevi Bhandari's Morang-Sunsari Daudaha has affected the Morang convention, the discussion has started in the UML circle. Last January, Bhandari had a meeting with new and old UML workers who were dissatisfied with President Oli, indicating her return to politics. During this time, she also met Dhakal.

Dhakal says that this election is just a regular internal competition within the party and it should not be a matter of winning or losing. "Neither Bidya Devi Bhandari nor KP Sharma Oli can be connected here. This is the decision of the local workers of the district," he said. He also promised to unite UML in Morang and take it forward.

Dhakal was considered a confidant of President Oli in the past. In the east, when Madhav Kumar Nepal had influence, he was from the Oli side. Dhakal has now reached the stage of competing with the Oli group. This division started with the state convention of October 2080. At that time, Dhakal claimed to be the president of the province. However, the leaders of Oli group Guru Baral, Sherdhan Rai, Bhanubhakta Dhakal, Hikmat Karki and others put Dhakal aside and put forward Ghanshyam Khatiwada. Khatiwada was considered the leader of the Nepal group. 

After Sherdhan Rai became the Chief Minister in 2074, Dhakal's relationship with Rai and Karki, despite being in the same group. This is why the leaders supported Khatiwada, which is near Nepal, which Oli also approved. Dhakal was finally defeated in the provincial assembly after Oli himself withdrew his hand and since then Dhakal has been fighting alone with Oli's group. "That 'ego' with Oli was reflected in the district convention of Morang", said a district leader of UML. 

Dhakal has been claiming that he is a member of the Oli group. However, he has recently been close to former president Bhandari. She visited in the second week of last January and spent most of her time with old UML workers and those who were dissatisfied with UML in Morang and Sunsari. At that time, she had a special meeting with Dhakal. At a time when Oli was not giving a 'green signal' at both the state and district levels, his meeting with Bhandari was seen as meaningful.

A central member of the UML said that the UML Morang convention revealed the internal factionalism and power struggle within the party. "Who forced Dhakal, who was considered loyal to Oli at one time, to compete with the establishment party?," said the central leader, "The public opinion against the tendency to mislead the president is the result of Morang."
