Walking in the morning in the slums of Madhesh surrounded by leaders and activists, drinking tea and gossiping with the locals, listening to complaints and complaints, having a group meal in the afternoon, holding a meeting and staying at the local's house in the evening.

This is the routine of Maoist Center Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal today.

Dahal, who reached Sarlahi by leading the 'Maoist Terai Madhesh Awakening Campaign with Janata' started by Maoists from Jhapa on February 12, is seen mostly in local clothes.

Dahal has been staying in the houses of local supporters and well-wishers since there is a rule that no leader should stay in a hotel during this 'Long March' centered on the East-West Postal Highway near the Nepal-India border. With the basic aim of connecting with the people, Maoists have set the aim of staying in the homes of the locals, eating there and understanding their psychology, reading.

Chairman Dahal has been collecting memorandums from the locals during the trip. After the next election, Dahal is committed to fulfill the government led by Maoists, even if he does not go to the government before then, he will warn the government led by UML president KP Sharma Oli.

Compared to other provinces, Maoist's support base is weak in Terai Madhesh. Dahal will spend 1800 km long 'Long March' till Chait 12 (about one month) in Samathar Bhoomi.

Dahal, who was out of power after the Congress-UML alliance, came out on a long march saying that he would not form an alliance with anyone in the future. In this process, he not only interacted with the locals, served food, but also danced to local songs. 

After Dahal started the long march, a question has been raised in the political circle- is it possible to live in the heart of the people while staying at home?

Before looking for an answer to this, the armed struggle started by the Maoists in 2052 has to be reached. 

In 2048, he participated in the election in the name of United Janamorcha Nepal and became the third party by winning 8 seats in the parliament. At that time, he took the policy of using the parliament for armed struggle and conducted a similar awakening campaign in the area under his influence. In Rukum, Rolpa, Salyan, Jajarkot, Pyuthan and other districts, a campaign was conducted showing songs, music, dance and drama about the justification of armed war with cultural programs. That campaign was effective in preparing the base for the Maoists . 

'living in people's house,  The Maoists had launched an awakening campaign with the strategy of listening, mentally preparing the people for war, and preparing resistance squads if oppressed by the state. At the same time, he physically ran a 'public service' campaign. The main purpose of the campaign was to build roads, sanitation campaign, help the local people in agriculture, and show the dream of revolution.

After the Maoists started the armed struggle, the districts where they campaigned were turned into base areas . This time, the Maoists have repeated some features of the Terai Madhesh Jagran campaign.

Chairman Dahal has been saying that the Maoists want to closely monitor the needs, desires and demands of the Madhesi community by conducting a Jagran campaign in core Madhesh. Although he went to the government several times, the latest government under his leadership mainly emphasized good governance, corruption control and social justice. It seems that he has the main objective of increasing his weakened organization in the 2084 elections, if not possible. But it is not easy for the Maoists to enter the hearts of the people as they have been living in the homes of the people during the campaign.

The then Maoist Vice President Baburam Bhattarai, when he became the Prime Minister in August 2068, made a schedule of staying at the local's house every month . At that time, he used to stay in the houses of locals in Jumla, Kathmandu, Bardia, Gorkha and other districts. They used to interact by eating cooked food in that house. He started that campaign to expand the relationship with the people. 

Even after leaving Maoist and forming a new party, he went on a 'Janasamwad' trip from Chiwabhanjyang to Jhulaghat in Baitadi on the Madhyapahari folk route in January-February 2075 . Even then, he was staying at a local's house . But with the expectation that he had made that trip, but the public support was not seen in his favor . After concluding that the expected results could not be achieved in the last general election, he allied with the Maoists. After the election results, the distance between Dahal and Bhattarai, who had formed an alliance with party unity, has increased. At present, the relationship between these two leaders is so cold that the conversation is stopped .

Earlier, UML had started Sankalp Yatra on Madhyapahari Lokmarg from Jhulaghat in Baitadi to Chiwabhanjyang in Panchthar from November 2080. UML President KP Sharma Oli understood the memorandum of the locals. Those memorandums were synthesized and submitted to the then Prime Minister and Maoist Chairman Dahal. But even though Oli led the government, the demands of speeding up services, facilities, business and planning of the locals have not been fulfilled. On the strength of the political journey, there has been an unprecedented support for the party. After he went to the government, it has been confirmed that his commitment to meet the demands made during the trip has not been fulfilled.

Running a political campaign in a multi-party competitive political system is the beauty of it . After the Maoist tried to conduct a political long march on Hulaki highway and then on Madhyapahari Lokmarg, it has become clear that he no longer has any rebellion left. But the Maoists have argued that during their political journey, they got great moral support in Terai Madhesh.
