A new species of bird for Nepal has been found in Jhapa's Mechinagar Municipality-6 Kakkadvitta. According to Nepal Ornithologists Association, 'Purple Rumped Sunbird' was found in Jhapa. The association issued a press release on Tuesday and informed that the Nepali name of the bird has been given as Baijni Bunge.
Ornithologist Devendra Kumar Kharel saw the bird during his observation on the morning of February 7. A male/female bird was seen on the avocado and cool sugar trees of one of the houses. Dr. Tulsi Subedi of Nepal Bird Record Committee informed that the bird was seen there for two days.
Even after Kharel, the bird was also seen by other ornithologists Anis Timsina, Chakra Timsina and Shankar Luintel, according to the Nepal Ornithologists Association.
Kharel sent the photo of the bird to the Bird Record Committee on February 9 for confirmation. With this confirmation, the number of bird species found in Nepal has reached 898, according to the association. According to the Nepal Ornithologists' Association, this bird is found as a resident in Bangladesh, India, Myanmar and Sri Lanka.
