In the 10th district convention of UML Morang, two separate panels for the selection of new leadership will be formed and there will be a bilateral competition. The founding party and other parties have registered their nominations with their respective panels on Monday evening.
Rajkumar Ojha as the president of the founding party, Shanti Limbu Bhujel as the vice president, Ravin Thapa as the secretary and Shilpa Nirala Karki and Erjalal Rajvanshi as the deputy secretaries have registered their candidates. From the other panel, Ajamber Rai, Vice President Sagar Thapa, Secretary Somraj Thapa and Santosh Vantawa and Usha Thakur have been nominated as Deputy Secretaries.
It is said that there have been twice as many nominations for the 165-member working committee. Among the 911 voters, there are 745 for geography, 120 for public organization and 46 nominees. To conduct the election process, UML has formed a seven-member election committee under the leadership of Central Election Commission member Sameer Nepal and coordinated by senior advocate Suresh Lal Shrestha. It is said that voting will start at 9 am on Tuesday.
After seeing the influence of other parties in the selection of representatives from geography and people's organization, the founding party nominated 46 representatives alone. In opposition to which, a controversy arose in the closed session on Sunday. The bandh session was adjourned after the leaders including Sagar Thapa raised slogans.
The pressure of Oli's side and the stance of other parties
President KP Sharma Oli and other leaders have pressured to select a unanimous leadership, but the other party has decided to adopt a democratic process. The Oli party wanted to make Rajkumar Ojha the president, but the election will be decided after no agreement was reached.
The founding party has been claiming that 60 percent of the convention delegates are on their side. On the other hand, the other side has claimed that they have 60 percent support. The leader of the other party, Vinod Dhakal, has led it. Dhakal has a good effect on Morang. He was once close to Oli, but after Oli supported Ghanshyam Khatiwada in the state convention, Dhakal got angry with Oli.
