Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, who went to the US for mineral deals, returned disappointed after an extraordinary meeting with the US President and Vice President. Zelensky had a heated exchange with Donald Trump and Vice President J.D. Vance in the Oval Office of the White House.

Zelensky, who entered the White House on Friday, was expected to exit with a mineral deal. But the leaders of the two countries clashed in front of the media in the Oval Office. A mineral deal between the US and Ukraine could not be signed. The joint press conference of the two presidents was also cancelled.

In the Oval House, the two sides initially had a cordial conversation for about half an hour. But when Vice President Vance said peace was possible through diplomacy, and Trump was doing just that, tensions began to flare. Disagreeing with Vance's statement, Zelensky mentioned that Russia has been attacking for almost a decade and talked about the failed ceasefire in 2019.

Saying that no one has stopped Russian President Vladimir Putin, Zelensky asked Vance, "What kind of diplomacy are you talking about?" In response, Vance said, "The kind that will end the destruction that is going on in your country," and the two sides started a heated argument. During that time, Vance said it was insulting for Zelensky to come to the Oval Office and make accusations in front of the American media. Mentioning that Trump took the initiative to end the war by talking to Putin, Vance also tried to pressurize Ukraine to immediately cease the war.

After Vance raised the issue of Ukraine's problems and lack of soldiers to fight, Zelensky said that everyone has problems during wartime. "It doesn't seem like a problem now because you have good seas. But it will be felt in the future," he said. After that, Trump, who looked somewhat angry, said that America should not be taught.

During the conversation, after Zelensky said that he was grateful even though Ukraine had been isolated since the beginning of the war, Trump said that he gave 3 trillion 50 billion through the "stupid president (Joe Biden)". After that, Vance accused Zelensky of not thanking the US for its support and asking for votes from the opposition party Democrats in the US presidential election last November.

Trump and Vance responded by calling the Oval Office disrespectful for Zelensky's rejection of his suggestion to negotiate a ceasefire with Russian President Vladimir Putin. After the controversy, Zelensky was asked to leave the US presidency. After that, Zelensky, who left the US, came to the UK. According to the BBC, there he will meet with the leaders of European countries.

There has been an all-round protest saying that the Trump administration has insulted the president of a warring sovereign country by inviting him to his country. It has been commented that the US has not demonstrated not only normal diplomatic but also humanitarian behavior by being invited as a guest.

Foreign affairs expert Dinesh Bhattarai considers Friday's incident unusual. This is a sight that has never been seen before. It is not different to have disputes and quarrels inside a closed room in a diplomatic meeting, but the scene seen live on TV is new," he said. "It can also be understood in terms of the misunderstanding between two people." He said that the entire Europe has been shaken by this incident and the relationship between the US and Europe, the future of NATO, and the trans-Atlantic relationship cannot be said about. Bhattarai is of the understanding that Trump has pushed forward the country-first policy.

International affairs expert Lekhnath Poudel considers the Oval Office incident unusual. "Trump has shown bullying," he said, "Whatever behavior and decisions he is making, they are motivated by the purpose of angering his domestic supporters." Many things came up during the meeting. But President Zelensky is not ready for peace because the US is involved. I don't want anything else, I just want peace," Trump wrote. "He has insulted America. If he wants peace, he can come here again.

Zelensky said that he wants a ceasefire. "Thank you America, for the support and this tour. Thank you US President, Congress and the American people. "Ukraine only wants peace and we are working for it," Zelensky wrote on social media. Zelensky told Fox News that the confrontation with Trump in the Oval Office was not good for either side. He says that the relationship between the two countries can go further.

Trump has left the door open for talks to resume. Trump says Zelensky can return when he is ready for peace. Zelensky also said that the strategic partnership between the two countries is alive and well. "US support is important to us and I want to acknowledge it," Zelensky wrote in X. "Despite tough dialogue, we remain strategic partners." But we need to be honest with each other to truly understand our common goals. He said that Ukraine is "very grateful" to the US for all its help. "I wish America would stand more firmly on our side," he wrote. Zelensky says that the US should guarantee the security of Ukraine in order to sign the mineral agreement. "A ceasefire without security guarantees is dangerous for Ukraine," he said.

Zelensky claims that nobody wants peace as much as Ukraine. "Russia is killing us. Russia is the enemy and that is the reality we face. Ukraine wants peace but it must be just and lasting. For that, we should be strong at the negotiating table," he said.

After the speech of the Oval Office, Europe as a whole is seen as one. Most of the European countries are dissatisfied with the insulting behavior of Trump and Vance towards Zelensky. British Prime Minister Keir Starmer has spoken to both Trump and Zelensky.

Starmer said that Britain's unwavering support for Ukraine remains and is playing a role for a lasting peace based on Ukraine's sovereignty and security. Starmer met with Trump the day before at the White House. At the time, Starmer asked Trump to reject the deal that rewards Russia and its partners.

The President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, supported Ukraine and wrote on the social network X, "Your dignity honors the bravery of the Ukrainian people." Be brave and fearless.'' European Union foreign policy chief Kaja Kalas mentioned that Ukraine belongs to Europe and that they are on Ukraine's side. "We will increase our support to Ukraine so that they continue to fight against the aggressors."

French President Emmanuel Macron has announced that he will continue to support Ukraine. "We have to respect the people who have been fighting since the beginning," he said, "We are the US, European countries, citizens of Canada and Japanese are all allies of Ukraine." German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said that Ukraine can rely on Germany and Europe.

Noting that Ukrainian citizens want nothing but peace, he said that they are jointly in favor of a sustainable and just peace. German chancellor-turned-German chancellor Friedrich Merz's party legislator Johann Wadeful has also supported Ukraine. He described the scenes at the White House on Friday as shocking. How can you stab the president of an attacked country in the back like this? "Free Europe will not betray Ukraine," he wrote in X, questioning Trump.

Poland's Prime Minister Donald Tusk and Spain's Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez have stated that they are with Ukraine. Norway's Prime Minister Jonas Gar Storr said, "We are on the side of Ukraine and established peace in this conflict." Ireland's Deputy Prime Minister Simon Harris said that Ukraine cannot be blamed for this war. "We are with Ukraine," he said.

Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni has pointed out the need for a summit between the US, European states and their allies without delay. Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau says that Russia attacked Ukraine illegally and unfairly. He wrote in X, "Ukraine's fight is for democracy, freedom and sovereignty." This fight is meaningful for everyone. He says that Canada's support for Ukraine will continue. Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albany released a statement and supported Ukraine.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said that Zelensky should apologize. "Zelensky didn't need to go there and protest like this," he said in an interview with CNN. Democratic Rep. Chuck Sumer has commented that Trump and Vance have done dirty work. "Senate Democrats will never stop fighting for freedom and democracy," he wrote in X.

Republican Rep. Don Bacon has reacted to what has been a bad day for US foreign policy. "Ukraine wants freedom, free markets and the rule of law. He wants to be part of the West. Russia hates us and our western values. It is important to make it clear that we stand for freedom," he said.

Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said that Ukrainian President Zelensky is in favor of prolonging the war, but Moscow's goal is the demilitarization of Ukraine and the annexation of all territories currently occupied by Russia.

"Zelensky's disgraceful and rude behavior in Washington has confirmed that he is an irresponsible and provocateur of war and is the most dangerous for the world community," Zakharova said, "The sooner Kiev and some European capitals realize this, the sooner a peaceful solution to the Ukrainian crisis will happen."

Lekhnath Paudel, expert on international relations

US President Donald Trump's behavior towards his Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelensky is nothing new. He had previously appeared in an unusual manner in a meeting with the President of France. But Friday's incident is too much. This is called abuse. Trump has shown bullying. All his behavior and decisions are driven by the motive of angering his home supporters. The exploitation of natural resources in Ukraine was not done by the Democrat leadership either. But Trump wants to show his supporters that America now talks straight. And, looks at his advantage. Which is also his election slogan. Even if Ukraine accepts Trump's proposal, he is sure to give it to a businessman close to him. He wants to show that I am a strong man and will not bow down to anyone.

This incident shows that both extreme proximity and extreme distance from big and powerful nations are harmful. It has given the message that small countries should maintain coordination and balance with geopolitical forces. It has also become clear that when the leadership of the Shakti nation changes, its behavior and policy will be different. We should also understand that the political leadership formulates policies according to its constituencies.

Today's policy does not always remain the same. The one who comes in power, he advances the relationship in a way that suits him. This shows that in order to develop relations with any country, its internal politics and equation must also be understood. Similarly, it is seen that more caution should be taken when making long-term relationships and contracts.

Even if the basic policy has not changed, it has also taught the lesson that bilateral relations are dictated by domestic politics and relations and agreements should be made only by understanding them. It has also become clear that we should not be in a hurry to make agreements and understandings that will have a long-term effect if we have a good relationship with any country and its political leadership.
