Shitganga Municipality-11 There are two big ponds in Mauwabari and Dharampani forest of Gaide community forest. Water is brought from a distance in a pipe and collected in the pond. These ponds are not for irrigating any fields but for wild animals and birds.

With an investment of Rs 50,000 from the Division Forest Office and Rs 50,000 from the Forest Group, a pond of 12,000 liters of water has been constructed in Mauwabari. The pond is filled by bringing water through a pipe from a spring far away. A 5 feet deep pond has been constructed in Dharampani with an investment of Rs 58,000 by the forest group along with public donations.

A ladder has also been made so that birds and wild animals can easily drink water. The pond is always filled with water. "The purpose of constructing the pond is to have enough water to put out fires sometimes in the forest," said Sita Belwase, secretary of Gaide Community Forest Consumer Group. There are many birds such as peacocks, parrots, pigeons, crows, vultures and others. We have built a pond so that they do not have to run far to drink water.'

Even when there is a fire, the community has also built a fire line in the forest so that the fire does not spread to many forests. "Sometimes there may be a fire in the forest, to prevent it from spreading, the pond water can be used to control the fire", she said.

He said that the pond was built so that wild animals, herbs, giraffes, and birds would not be destroyed when a fire breaks out in the forest. According to him, consumers are working together to create forests and grow plants. Forest leaves (Khosmera) are collected and burnt.  823 consumers belong to

group. Sal, Asana, Tikuli, Karma, Sissaun Khair and others are in the forest. The boundary of the forest is connected with Kapilvastu. Birds roam the plains and mountains.

"We build ponds in other places too," said Juddha Bahadur Sunar, president of Forest Group, "It is our duty to preserve and protect wild animals and birds." We have built a pond so that the forest does not run away due to thirst and the birds and wild animals do not die because of the water.'

He said that it is easier to drink water in a pond than in a river or a river. "When we go to the forest to see the forest, to do conservation work, we feel great joy and fun when we hear the chirping of the birds," he said, "There are birds in the forest such as peacocks, wild chickens, and vultures."

Locals Gopal Khatri and Motiram Khatri have been kept as watchmen in the forest by paying a monthly salary of 9/9 thousand rupees in case someone enters the forest and commits mischief. He said that two forest watchers have been appointed to monitor wood theft, bird and wild animal poachers. Their salary is paid by the group from forest income.
