A decision on BP highway reconstruction will be made only after the Japan International Cooperation Agency inspects the site
The contract management of the roads damaged by the floods of last October will be done by the middle of February. According to the road department, the purchase master plan of all the roads has been requested for that. Arjun Prasad Aryal, deputy director general and spokesperson of the department, said that some road offices have already sent the master plan and some are in the process of coming.
"Internally, we have asked all the road projects to send the procurement master plan within a week," Aryal said, "Then we will manage all the road contracts by the middle of February."
'Most of the problems are with the BP highway, since the preparatory work for this has been completed, there is no problem to work by contracting,' Aryal said, 'There is no decision about the construction by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), which section will be constructed, the work will proceed after the decision.'
The Ministry of Finance has already given resource consent for the construction of road infrastructure damaged by floods and landslides last Tuesday . Therefore, the way has been opened for the permanent construction of roads and bridges, according to the department. The work of the bridge damaged by the flood will not start before the monsoon.
"The design work of the bridges has not been done, except for the bridge, all the roads are ready to be contracted," Aryal said, "We have prepared the guidelines for the design and build of the bridge and sent it to the cabinet, we will not proceed with the contract process until it is approved." That is why he says that he is not in a hurry to contract the bridge. "It will take more than two months to call for the contract for the bridge, then the rainy season will start again," he said. "We have received resource consent to build both temporary and permanent ways on the BP highway," he said, "according to that, we have started the work." Keshav Kumar Sharma, Secretary of the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport, said that after a technical team from Japan arrived within a few days and inspected the damage caused by the flood, JICA would decide on the matter. "The team from Japan will look at and decide which section to build," he said, "then we will separate the section to be constructed and we will start work." According to the department, it has received the consent of the source. Director General of the Department Ramhari Pokharel says that it has been decided to disburse 1 billion 88 million for the current financial year.
The Ministry of Physical Education asked for funds for the permanent construction and maintenance of 10 highways, 13 bridges and 3 roads. 15.83 billion rupees were demanded for highways, 1.9 billion rupees for bridges and 1.15 billion rupees for alternative roads. 8 billion 50 crore rupees have been asked for the highest BP highway. Funds were requested through Road Division Bhaktapur and Khurkot for the permanent construction and maintenance of the highway. According to this, 7.5 billion rupees have been demanded for Bhaktapur section and 1 billion rupees for Khurkot section.
Kavre Bhanjang-Nepalthok section 12 km road has been damaged by flood and landslide. Its 8.7 km road section is drained by Roshi river. There is a problem on the road from Chowki Danda in Kavre to Mulkot. Even more problem is in Chowki Danda to Nepal wholesale section. The flood caused less damage in the Sindhuli section and more damage in the Kavre section.
Arnico highway, Mechi highway, Biblate-Maipokhari-Sandakpur road, Kanti highway, Charikot-Singti road, Siddharth highway, Khurkot-Milti and Tamakoshi-Milti road have been requested for permanent construction . Accordingly, the department has already decided to give the budget. Alternative roads are Bhakundebensi-Timal-Sinduretar in Karve, Kirnetar-Jaffe and Thankot-Chitlang in Dolakha. 1 billion 150 million has been demanded for this road.
