The Revenue Investigation Office Butwal has filed a case against two people for evading customs and bringing raw materials for the production of fake liquor with a false claim of more than 50 million rupees. A case was filed on Tuesday with recovery of 52.1 million rupees along with 100% penalty for the price of the materials used in the 'packaging' of expensive brand foreign liquor.
The Revenue Investigation Office at Butwal has seized foreign liquor double black label, black label, vat sixty nine, etc., which are not produced in the country, along with bottle caps and excise stickers. Those materials were seized while being brought to Kathmandu through Belhia crossing.
According to Vivek Ghimire, head of Revenue Investigation Office Butwal, the materials of alcohol which are not produced in Nepal but used for production were seized while being taken to Kathmandu via Butwal. "While taking the material, it was recovered from Shashank Khanal of Belhia, Siddharthnagar Municipality-1," he said, "Based on Khanal's statement, the material appears to belong to Ramesh Gautam of Kavrepalanchok Chaurideurali Rural Municipality-4, but he has not been arrested."
The office and the department also searched Gautam's house in Kathmandu. However, even if Gautam was not arrested, a case has been filed against both Gautam and Gautam, who escaped with the goods used as hostages, with a fine of 103 million 27 thousand 290 bigos per person and 100 percent of the fine.
Office made defendants, as it was confirmed during the investigation of revenue leakage including customs duty, value added tax and excise duty by dealing in smuggled goods, according to section 2 (6, 1) of the Revenue Leakage (Investigation and Control) Act, 2052, both of them were fined 10 million 30 million 27 thousand 290 per person and 50 million 21 million 9 thousand 160 including 100 percent of the money. According to section 23(1)(b) of the Act, the Director General and Spokesperson of the Revenue Investigation Department, Krishna Kumari Shrestha, said that the maximum imprisonment sentence has been demanded.
