Singer Birkh Vishwakarma is accused of collecting more than crores by pretending to be seriously ill, earlier it was alleged that child actor Sachin Pariyar's father Tejendra took money and misused it by showing his health condition.
Singer Birkh Vishwakarma, who came to Kathmandu from Jumla, was making his mark in the music industry. He was attracting viewers on YouTube with dozens of songs including 'Man Paro Chura', 'Jumla Aane Dobato', 'Manjari', 'Batuli', 'Ab Ta Atti Bho', 'Ooni Ta Merei Hunewali Hun'. A year ago, he released a social media video that featured not a new song, but a new 'Vytha'.
Saying that he has 'blood cancer', he started asking for financial support. His posts with captions like 'Now the rest is in God's hands', 'Ayu Choto Hoha' started getting more buzz than the song. By putting the 'documents' used in hospitals and treatment on Facebook, he not only started to gather the sympathy of the society, but also financial support. In the meantime, songs like 'Ayu Chhoto Raichhe Mero Ta' and 'Swargma Pratshikesh Ghoreonla' also went viral. But more than the songs made by Birkh, now the videos made about him have gone viral. Because his aide has claimed, 'Birkh did not have blood cancer, he lied to the society.' He used to reach the airport in a wheelchair for treatment. His post not only evoked compassion in the society, but also collected financial support. However, after it became clear that Bharatpur Cancer Hospital did not treat Birkh for cancer, the helpers were upset.
Birkh also claimed that he had cancer on Facebook live on Monday. "If you don't believe me, ask the doctors and siblings who took me to the cancer hospital in Bharatpur. After hearing that I was bleeding a lot from my mouth, nose, and ears, the doctor told me to treat it immediately," he says. I am in Kathmandu. If I don't have cancer, why did they give me 15/16 pills? Gentlemen should clarify. I can't read or write much. I treated as the doctor said, I took medicine.'
Executive Director of Cancer Hospital. Shivji Poudel made it clear that Birkh did not have cancer according to the records in the hospital. After the patient comes to the hospital, the suspected disease is tested. It appears that Birkh Vishwakarma came to the hospital in January last year. On the same day, it was found that the doctor had done various blood tests like endoscopy, heart ECG, HIV after he said he had problems with flatulence and constipation,' Paudel told Kantipur, 'The report of all those tests came back normal on the same day. Ulcers appear in the report. Ulcer is not cancer.
Dr. According to Paudel, the hospital does not have the details of further examination. Our hospital creates and maintains a separate cancer file, which contains the details of patients diagnosed with cancer. Birkh Vishwakarma's name has not been found in any test or report confirming cancer, he said.
The statuses and videos he wrote about having cancer and not being able to afford treatment are still on Facebook, YouTube and Tiktok. If you look at his Facebook, you can see from 1000 to 600,000 supporters. However, Sanchita Shahi, who has been considering Birkh as her brother, has said that it was her mistake to trust Birkh and ask for money. "After Birkh said that he was an orphan and was not even able to take care of him in the hospital, I helped him out of humanity," she wrote on the network. She has apologized to the donor saying that she felt guilty knowing that Birkh's claim was a lie. However, since he started campaigning for financial support for Birkh, he has also been questioned on the internet.
This is not the first case where money has been collected and misused in the name of serious patients. Earlier, it was alleged that child actor Sachin Pariyar's father Tejendra took money and misused it by showing his health condition. Although lakhs of rupees were collected in Sachin's name, his treatment was not good. The society was shocked when Sachin died on December 18 at the age of 13. However, with the passage of time, Sachin's issue faded away, and Birkh's controversy came to the surface.
Treatment of serious diseases like cancer, kidney disease, heart disease is very expensive and complicated in Nepal. Therefore, social media has also been helpful in collecting financial support from well-wishers and for the treatment of real victims. Some have misused it.
DIG Dinesh Acharya, the spokesperson of Nepal Police, says that although there is controversy on social media about the misappropriation of money in the name of patients, no formal complaint has been filed. "Even though there have been disputes on social media, no complaints have been received, so the process of investigation on such matters has not been carried forward," he says. Social media became a friend in Saru Guragai's treatment in America. Throat cancer was treated with the help collected by husband Murari Guragai last year by calling on 'Go Fund Me'. After collecting 75,000 dollars needed for his treatment, the family informed that no additional funds were needed. Family members said that Saru's health is now normal.
Journalist Bhuparaj Pathak of Chitwan was being treated with the money collected from social media. He passed away on February 7. Pathak was diagnosed with blood cancer by the Kathmandu Maharajgunj teaching hospital on 21st December. Soon after, the collection of support for his treatment was started. DevAnjan Shah, a member of the campaign, informed that about 56 lakhs have been collected from home and abroad. While undergoing treatment for cancer, Bhuparaj was also diagnosed with tuberculosis. However, as funds were collected from well-wishers, he was also taken to Rajiv Gandhi Hospital in Delhi for treatment.
Now the campaign to save the cancer-stricken journalist Sangeeta Baniyan Silwal of Chitwan is going on. Sangeeta herself has made a call on social media saying that treatment is not possible without help. So far, about 8 lakh rupees have been collected for him. His treatment is continuing in Bharatpur.
4-year-old Muna Gurung of Bharatpur is undergoing surgery on Tuesday after having a hole in her heart by collecting funds from social media. Similarly, the treatment of 11-year-old Ram Bhujel from Tanahun Devghat, who was injured after falling from Bhir in January 2079, was also facilitated due to social media. After Nesan Shahi's one and a half year old son of Hrideyash Kumar Shahi of Thatikandh of Dailekh had a kidney problem, his family has also sought financial help from social media. The child, who had been suffering from prostate disease since 15 days of birth, now has a kidney problem and now has financial problems in treatment. According to his grandfather Narendra Shahi, due to the prostate, one of Nas's kidneys has failed and swelling has appeared in the other. They are now asking for help through social media after not having enough money for treatment even after selling the farm. The child is being treated at Karnali Province Hospital, Surkhet.
