A leopard has been rescued from Bhainsepati area of Lalitpur. On Monday afternoon, a leopard living in the compound of the house was caught from Lalitpur Municipal Corporation-18 and taken to Sadar Zoo in Jawalakhel.
On Monday afternoon, a team from the Division Forest Office, Kathmandu was deployed after getting the news that a leopard had entered the compound of Rupi Singh, the founder and executive director of Rupiz International School in Bhainsepati. A team led by Forest Officer Shankar Thapa darted the leopard.
A leopard has attacked a woman while running away after darting. According to Chief District Officer of Lalitpur Ramesh Dhakal, 50-year-old Vinita Khadka is among the injured. Forest officer Thapa said that the captured leopard has been kept in the zoo for treatment.
When asked whether leopards have been seen in various places in Kathmandu Valley recently, Forest Officer Thapa says, 'Nagarjuna Jungle-Dakshinkali-Champadevi-Kirtipur Bagbani-Sunakothi is the route that leopards walk on . This is the way leopards used to walk before, before there was no CCTV, so there was not much notice. Now, because the settlement has grown up close to the forest, it is said that leopards have been spotted.' Although the age of the caught leopard is not known, he says that it is adult.
Ganesh Koirala, information officer of Sadar Zoo, said that the leopard was kept in the zoo for monitoring. He also said that the leopard might have attacked after the noise increased.
