Nepali Congress MP NP Saud has demanded from the government to provide immediate compensation to the families of free earners who have been affected during the expansion of Mahakali Irrigation Project 3 in Kanchanpur.
Speaking at zero time of the meeting of the House of Representatives on Monday, MP Saud requested the government to provide immediate compensation to the freed workers living in Shuklaphanta Municipality-8 and 9 affected by the irrigation project.
"During the extension of the Mahakali Irrigation Third Project, the land of some farmers has been acquired". Among the lands that have been taken over is the land provided to the free earners of Shuklaphanta Municipality-8 and 9,' he said.
Saud said that the farmers submitted an application to the district administration office to increase the compensation due to the low amount of compensation and demanded re-evaluation from the Ministry of Home Affairs, but there was no hearing.
"Even though some of the land acquisition victims are receiving compensation, the Ministry of Land Reforms did not send a letter to the Ministry of Irrigation, so when the compensation was stopped, the freed people became homeless again," he said.
Former Foreign Minister Saud also said that the farmers of Krishnapur Municipality-1 and 4 were affected by Mahakali Irrigation Project 3 and that the amount should be reconsidered and increased.
"Farmers of Krishnapur Municipality 1 and 4 have also been affected by Mahakali Irrigation Project 3". I request the government through the Honorable House to reconsider and increase the compensation given to the farmers there and to provide immediate compensation to the free workers of Shuklaphanta," Saud said.
