Minister of Communication and Information Technology Prithbisubba Gurung has expressed his commitment to amend the Working Journalists Act, 2051 in a timely manner.

In an interaction program organized by the Minimum Wage Determination Committee in Kathmandu on Monday, Minister Gurung mentioned that it will take some time to amend the Act and also said that the existing Act should be implemented. He said that there was a problem in the implementation of the Act due to some publishing houses. He said that it is also necessary to solve the problems seen in the implementation of the Act and improve it.

He said, 'We will amend the Working Journalist Act, 2051. We want to make this commitment. We have our own ministry, which has not yet come to multi-party, nor has it come to a republic. For that reason, we are starting the process of amending the Act. It is not implemented because of the publishing and media houses. Is there no necessary interaction with them on behalf of its government and relevant ministries? Until now, the working method and culture of our state is like that. It should be identified and improved. The ministry is also ready to implement that.'

He said that there was an agreement between the parties to make the pending laws and laws through fast track. He also said that the bills that have been pending for a long time have been put into law.

He said, 'It takes time to make a new law. If the ordinance comes, there will be a flood of protests again. We have agreed between the parties to go on the fast track. We have said that the law can be made within a certain time. We have said that 19 bills, which have been pending for 6-7 years, will be passed this shift. I pay attention to what can be done on behalf of the ministry to make the communication sector effective. But we also had to be decent.

He said that the ministry is ready to do the necessary work for the improvement of the communication sector. He emphasized that even the journalists who are in communication work should work with modesty.
