Three separate cases have been filed against 6 people with the demand of recovery of 25 million 83 lakh 92 thousand and jail sentence for the defendant on the charge of evading revenue.

The Revenue Investigation Department has filed a case against them in the Patan, Biratnagar and Janakpur High Courts on the charge of illegally importing 19,000 electronic cigarettes (Vape) from the Corolla border of Mustang and goods including clothes from the Dakshin border.  According to Krishna Kumari Shrestha, deputy director general of the

department, the case was filed based on the investigation done by the department itself, Itahari and Pathalaiya office.   According to the

department, a case has been filed in the Patan High Court by making an office assistant and a businessman working under contract at Corolla Naka as defendants. The police seized the vehicle which was going to be taken from Corolla Naka to Beni via Jomsong near the check post of Gharpazhong Rural Municipality-4 Annapurna Conservation Area. A case has been filed against the vehicle driver Ghyamcho Gurung and Tasi Norbu Gurung, a contract office assistant at the customs office, for being involved in smuggling the vape.

It has been claimed that a total of 932 million 24 thousand 92 rupees should be collected from the drivers Ghyamcho and Nurbu along with 46.66 million 12 thousand bigos and 100% fine. The department said that they have also been asked to be jailed. Driver Ghyamcho has given a statement that he went to China and loaded vape in the car. But the owner of the goods did not say .

department has also demanded that the vehicle numbered C 1 B 6999 loaded with vape should be seized . The driver Ghyamcho is in custody. "It seems that Tasi, the office assistant, absconded with the revenue payment receipt and money," the source said.

Similarly, the department has filed a case against Sonu Kanu, the proprietor of Krishna store, for importing a large amount of ready-made garments from Jhapa, the southern border, with a total demand of 145,846,666 including 70 million 2923 thousand 330 bigos and 100% fine. With the permission of the

department, the Itahari office has filed a case against Sonu in the Temporary High Court of Biratnagar, demanding a prison sentence. When the Itahari office searched a store in Bhadrapur, Jhapa last October, Sonu had stolen goods, customs duty, VAT and  Income tax was not paid.

Similarly, a case has been filed against the three in Janakpur Temporary Ijalas with a demand to recover 96 lakh 60 thousand 864 rupees and 100 percent fine including 100 percent penalty of 1 crore 93 lakh 21 thousand 728 rupees for stealing 60 kg 80 grams of silver by making a false bottom on the scooter. Karma Sah Sonar of Bara Kalaiya sub-metropolitan city-5 has been made the main accused. Shankar Prasad Sonar aka Shankar Shah Sonar of Birgunj Metropolitan City-28, Indra Kumari Periyar of Kalaiya Sub-Metropolitan City-5 Bara has been demanded to receive half the punishment of the main accused.

According to the provisions mentioned in the Revenue Leakage (Investigation and Control) Act, the case has been filed, according to Navraj Adhikari, the information officer of the department.

In the ordinance issued by the government on 30th of January last year, the provision was mentioned that if any business firm, person or entity commits an offense related to revenue leakage of up to three crores and agrees to pay 100% of the fine, it should be prosecuted . In the previous Revenue Leakage Act, there was a provision that only offenses up to 50 lakhs should not be prosecuted . But in the case of fraudulently defrauding the revenue, it is mentioned in the ordinance that the case will be prosecuted no matter how small the amount is. Even if the offender refuses to pay an amount less than three million, the case will continue.
