The Ministry of External Affairs said that further legal and administrative steps will be taken based on the findings of the high-level committee formed by the Odisha government to investigate the incident.
Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal has assured that all necessary steps have been taken for the safety of students and activation in educational activities. Expressing his deep sorrow over the death of the Nepalese student, he also expressed his heartfelt condolences to the family. He said that ever since the incident came to the knowledge, the Ministry has been in contact with Nepal Government, State Government, KIIT officials and taking necessary steps. Prakriti Lamsal, a Nepali student studying at KIIT, was found dead in the hostel on Sunday evening. The Nepali students studying there demanded a real investigation and justice saying that his death was suspicious, and the college administration suppressed it. KIIT administration used security guards and bouncers to beat hundreds of Nepalese students and threw them out of the hostel. After being kicked out from the hostel, they were stranded at the railway station.
The incident in the educational institute was strongly protested in Nepal. Protests against the incident continue in the streets, parliament and media everywhere. Not only the news of the incident details, but also through editorials and opinions, the media has expressed opposition to the incident.
The famous English magazine 'The Indian Express' on Thursday suggested universities and colleges in India to be 'gentle and kind' through its editorial. Referring to the incident at KIIT, the newspaper wrote that despite the Nepali students filing a complaint against the harassment, the college administration did not take sufficient steps. The editorial reflects the fact that India is still far from the ideal image of a 'global campus' for international students.
College staff instructed Nepali students to vacate the campus, their behavior is crude and appalling, the editorial said. Attention has also been drawn to ensure an inclusive environment in colleges . The same newspaper has placed the matter raised in the Parliament of Nepal regarding the Odisha case in the main news on the front page on Wednesday .
India's famous journalist Ravish Kumar has condemned the behavior of Nepali students at KIIT through his YouTube channel. He also questioned the administration of KIIT and Odisha Police for not taking credible action from the beginning.
Nepal's Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has said that the Odisha government came into "action" only after he wrote about the Odisha incident on the social network X. He mentioned that the treatment of Nepali students is very wrong and no university should have so much arrogance.
Ravish Kumar has also condemned the statement made by some officials of KIIT saying that 'as much as Nepal has no budget, the university is giving free food to the students'. He linked the incident at KIIT with the impact on India's image. He has said that who is involved in forcing Nepalese students out of the hostel, beating them, by whose order it was done, all should be investigated. He also said that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs should intervene in this matter and ensure concrete action. He said that there should be a transparent investigation on who is responsible for the death of Prakriti Lamsal.
Similarly, journalist Shubshankar Mishra has said that instead of getting justice for the Nepali student, the abuse done by KIIT has become a matter of shame for India. Through his YouTube channel, he said that 140 crore Indians should be ashamed because of the attitude of the college administration.
In his 14-minute long comment on the KIIT case, he condemned the college administration and said that no one in India should support them, should not stand with him. After the suspicious death of Nepali student Lamsal, he condemned the suppression of Nepali students from the college to hide it.

The English newspaper 'Deccan Herald' has published the view that India has failed the diplomatic test regarding the KIIT incident. Writer Shastri Ramachandran has called the situation where foreign mission officers have to run to help their citizens in India as a diplomatic failure of India. He has pointed out the weakness of the central and state governments in not being able to understand the seriousness of the incident. He called the incident with the Nepali student a continuation of the racial prejudice that is happening to the students of the Northeast in India.
K Ravi, resident editor of the Bhubaneswar edition of 'The Statesman' magazine, says that there is widespread protest at the local level against the mistreatment of Nepali students at KIIT. "Print, television and all the media have given priority to the incident and have not only covered it." "The media has raised many questions about the college administration and the state government," he said, "Opposition parties in the state assembly and ruling party MPs have also condemned the incident and raised questions about the safety of Nepali students." The state government immediately became active due to the protests at the local level and the pressure from Delhi. Due to the pressure from all sides, the college administration has reached a defensive position . The founder, vice-chancellor to the registrar have repeatedly apologized for the incident.
Bhubaneswar Police has arrested and prosecuted 10 people involved in the death of a Nepali student and the incident of repression on the student. Likewise, a high-level committee has been formed to investigate the incident on behalf of the state government. A demand has been raised in the Assembly of Odisha on Friday to arrest KIIT founder Achyut Samant and investigate the incident. Although KIIT has made a great contribution to the education sector in Odisha, the latest incident has raised serious questions.
