The Nepali Army has analyzed that international and regional geopolitical changes have added challenges to national security. The Army's proposal is that there should be a 'new strategy' to face the challenge and there should be coordination between the state agencies.
At the two-day Prithanapati coordination meeting which started on Thursday at the military headquarters, Army Chief Ashokraj Sigdel concluded that the current global security situation is becoming more sensitive, complex and confusing from a multi-faceted perspective.
"In such a situation, changes in internal and external conditions may create security challenges of a new nature," he said. According to one of the
participants, the meeting will have a semi-annual review of the military organization. The meeting will also review the geopolitical situation and prepare a security report. After Donald Trump took over the government, the US has suspended the grants coming from USAID, MCC etc. It seems that the country should make a future strategy after analyzing in depth which region of Nepal has been affected by this," said the above.
Because of the change in geopolitics, the program decided by the government from within the annual budget system will also be affected, he said that the meeting will set a roadmap on what strategy to adopt from the perspective of the overall national interest. Another senior military officer who participated in the
meeting informed that the recent situation of various parties protesting within the country with their own demands will also be reviewed in the meeting. "Currently, there is activity on the side/opposition to decide whether or not to build a cable car in Pathibhara, its background is connected with Koshi naming," he said. There is also a thorough discussion on this matter in the Prithanapati coordination meeting.'
The official said that the demands of the parties who feel that their access and presence in the mainstream of the state are weak in Madhesh are also needed. On the first day of the meeting, senior military officers from various departments including the Directorate General of Military Operations and the Directorate General of Military Intelligence gave presentations on the geopolitical situation and its impact on Nepal. According to Army Spokesperson Assistant Rathi Gaurav Kumar KC, on Friday, the commanders will conduct a 'briefing' and review of the security situation in their respective areas, along with other items. Inaugurating the
meeting, Defense Minister Manveer Rai mentioned that the changing geopolitical environment and polarization and ongoing conflicts in various places have affected Nepal in one way or another and said that Nepal should be prepared to face it. "We should all unite to deal with climate change and the challenges posed by artificial intelligence to technology," he said.
