The current government is a symbol of autocracy: Shrestha

CPN Maoist Center Vice President and former Deputy Prime Minister Narayan Kaji Shrestha has accused the current government of being a symbol of autocracy. He said that this government is protecting the corrupt and cheating them.

In a press conference organized by Press Center Taplejung at the headquarters, Fungling, he accused that the two-party government is now trying to exercise despotism on the people. "They are trying to bring a threshold, that is also a sign of autocracy," Shrestha said, "The social media bill has been brought, but in the name of regulation, it was not possible to do things that should not be written, should not be spoken, and terrorize everyone, which is what the current government is doing." Social media  Stating that his party is in favor of regulation, Shrestha said that he does not want this type of autocracy.

Saying that the threat to democracy has not ended, Shrestha stressed on the need to proceed consciously to protect it. "We are moving forward in the implementation of the constitution, but what we are emphasizing is that the threat to democracy has not ended, so we will proceed consciously to protect it," said Shrestha.

He demanded the government to complete the rest of the peace process. He said that it is an important task to make the country as a whole successful in the peace process by forming the Truth and Reconciliation and Disappearance Commission and providing justice to the conflict victims.

Since prosperity in the country is not possible until corruption is eradicated, he claimed that his party is now active in expanding and strengthening the organization and will control corruption by reaching the government with the opinion of the people. "Now the state is being looted by brokers, bureaucrats and politicians together, this has not allowed the development of national capital," Shrestha added, "This government has moved towards protecting the corrupt and running the government through ordinances." It is not a condition for the country to get immunity.

He thinks that it is not a good message for the former president and vice president to be active in politics again. He said that his party and other parties are also discussing this issue.
