Nainsingh Mahar, central member of Nepali Congress and head of education department, said that although the manifestos of political parties are attractive, there is a problem due to non-implementation. He said that the parties should review the implementation of what was written in the manifesto.
Addressing the 24th representative assembly welcome and honor program held by the Nepal Teachers Association Lalitpur on Wednesday, he said that parties are mainly responsible for building a strong democratic country.
'A fully democratic country is a country which ensures the rights and freedom of its citizens. Follows the rule of law. Provides for accountable government. And, it increases people's participation,' he said, 'Parties are responsible for strengthening democracy. It is the role of the parties to improve its practical practice.' He said that the democratic system will be strengthened only by the combination of rights and duties.
So far, rights have only been talked about, but he says that it should be accompanied by duty. 'From 2007 until now, there have been big debates about rights. There was a movement. We made the constitution. We made a party manifesto. Many rights were established. We didn't go towards fulfilling the duty by taking into consideration that democracy is strengthened only by fulfilling the duty along with rights,' he said.
He commented that due to such weaknesses, the question arises as to what democracy has given us. He says that there is a problem in the failure of duty from the Prime Minister to the workers. He emphasized that people's dreams can be realized by strengthening democracy only by observing rights and duties.
'Since 2007, leaders have been leading the political. However, they could not provide laws and regulations to make the country fully dynamic. This is the burning problem of today. Now the political parties should not run in the same style. "We should work in a timely and result-oriented way," he said.
