The convention of Nepal Samajwadi Party (New Power) which ended last week has elected a 99-member central committee under the leadership of Baburam Bhattarai. 23-year-old Amit Khanal is the youngest member of the 99-member Central Committee.
After completing his engineering studies in India, he returned to his country last year. Why did Khanal come into politics? In a conversation with Ganga BC of Kantipur, he explained the reason for coming into politics in detail as follows:
I came back after completing B-Tech Mechatronics at Shivaji University, Kolhapur, Maharashtra, India . Even while staying there, I tried to solve the problems of the students . But no matter how hard you try alone, it will not be enough. Then, while studying there, I joined the student organization of Naya Shakti Bharatiya. That's where my political journey started .
I was elected as a central member on behalf of the youth in the Congress of CPN (New Power) held last week. I am the youngest (23 years old) central member . There were five candidatures for the open youth positions. I was already impressed with the teachings and ideas of Baburam Bhattarai .
Studying engineering, I used to get jobs easily . But I realized that the young people in Nepal are not getting good education and are wandering without getting employment. Since I was studying in India, I was observing the politics of Nepal . Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba, Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and Maoist Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal used to say that they did politics for the youth. But the problems of the youth have not been addressed. When he was the Prime Minister, I saw that the problems of the youth were there. While I was studying in India, I used to see Nepali youths working in the Chaumin Center, a hotel in Maharashtra, and the question arose in my mind . After that, I became active thinking that young people should come into politics.
In Nepal, young people are not seen in the leading positions of parties. The work of limiting the student organization was done. It was seen that the old leaders did not understand the problems of the youth, education and employment. Why are young people going abroad? Why not find the answer ? That's why I joined politics. Garbage will not increase unless the youths join politics .
Baburam Bhattarai opened the way for youth to enter politics through new power. According to the statute, I have been able to be a central member . If I don't go into politics now, when will I start? It is caught in politics that as much service can be done through politics, it cannot be done through other professions. Especially to fulfill the dreams of the youth, youths like me should also come into politics . Now even the major leaders of Nepal were involved in politics at a young age . They have made a big movement, struggle . Why have they not allowed the youth to come to the leadership now? This question is deep .
We have opened a startup company to make politics a place of service and not a profession. We have started Mahavi IT Company . Most of our leaders think that politics is everything. Politics has been made the main profession . After going to the government, there was no other gainful profession . The main reason for corruption in politics is to make politics the main earning profession. Politicians should make another profession of income source together . Politics should not be a means of earning. Politics has become a cooking pot for many of today's leaders. We have started a startup company because of alternative politics.
There are many anomalies in the politics of Nepal. Young people should come to tear it down . Youth should be not only in age, but also in thought . Youth had to be new in thought . Are the ideas competent? It should be able to give the right speed to the country. Deuba, Oli and Prachanda are my grandfather's age. Elderly leaders did not get a special chance in major parties. There is an ideological gap . It is not good to have a generation in politics . Now the politics of Nepal is coming from grandfather generation to grandson generation . We are suffering from the traditional politics of the grandfather generation. Why are our leaders unable to take advice from the younger generation? If it is taken, why is the politics of Nepal so bad? It is necessary to find the answer.
The old leaders do not understand the wishes of the young generation . They are trying to go ahead of the traditional way . How are young people thinking? Older leaders once had to see how they could change when they were young .
