The meeting of the National Assembly has regretted the statement made by RPP MP Gyan Bahadur Shahi about the work of the National Assembly and the age of its members. The meeting on Sunday expressed regret over Shahi's Facebook status on issues including the Media Council Bill passed by the National Assembly.

"The media council bill that no one can like, share and comment on the wrong activities of the government was passed without reading it," Shahi wrote on Facebook targeting the National Assembly. Through the status, he national

also commented on the age of parliamentarians. But the Media Council Bill does not provide for legal action if someone writes, likes or comments on social media. Such a provision is in the Social Media Bill. The bill has only been registered in the National Assembly.

Parliamentarians objected to Shahi's statement in the National Assembly meeting, who is also the chief whip of RPP in the House of Representatives. Maoist MP Gangakumari Belwase demanded action from Shahi for violating the privilege of the assembly. Congress MP Narayana Dutt Mishra asked them to be careful while making statements. "The Media Council Bill has been discussed in the Legislation Management Committee from various angles," he said.

United Samajwadi MP Jayanthi Rai objected. "The speech of MP Shahi in the House of Representatives has violated the special rights of the National Assembly. I regret this statement. The assembly should pass the resolution," he demanded. National Assembly Speaker Narayan Prasad Dahal said that the expression expressed by Shahi has attracted serious attention.

Chairman Dahal said that 26 MPs of the National Assembly registered 78 amendments in different sections of the Media Council Bill and discussed it with the concerned parties, relevant ministries and the amenders in the Legislative Management Committee. He informed that the report was prepared after discussion in 14 meetings of the committee and the bill was passed along with the report of the said committee.

"In relation to the bill passed in this way, Shahi has gone beyond the reality and expressed irresponsibly about the functioning of the other assembly and also in relation to the qualification, ability and age of the member of the assembly. This assembly regrets this expression," Speaker Dahal said.
