The National Dalit Commission has instructed the Nepal Police to investigate the truth about the atrocities committed by the state on the pair of Sarlahi, Satyendra Kumar Ram and Neha Rauniar.
On Thursday, the commission called Inspector General of Police Basant Bahadur Kunwar and other high officials to the commission and instructed them to take serious steps for legal remedies in the cases of injustice and atrocities against the Dalit community.
Commission member and spokesperson Sundar Purkuti informed that the Commission has instructed to investigate and take action against those who tried to free, arrested and tortured Satyendra and Neha. During the discussion in the commission, the chairman of the commission, Devraj Vishwakarma and the members questioned the police about the incident. After the
discussion, spokesperson Purkuti issued a statement and stated that they have been instructed to pay attention to their safety. Dalit rights activists had submitted a memorandum last Sunday saying that the Dalit Commission was not interested in the incident. After 10 days of the incident, the commission took interest in this matter. The Commission has not revealed the role of the Home Minister in the
incident. The victim, Satyendra, filed a petition in the commission saying that he was tortured by the police and his wife disappeared on the 24th of December.
